Angelica Ross, known for her work in “Pose” and “American Horror Story,” said Ryan Murphy left her “on read” about a seemingly scrapped season of “AHS” that would feature a cast led by Black women.

Ross posted screenshots of emails sent between herself and the prolific producer dating back to July 2020 on Monday, in which Murphy seemed to confirm the existence of the season and asked Ross for guidance on which other women should lead the installment.

The rest of the screenshot displays Ross’ response to Murphy’s email, also dated July 3, 2020, in which Ross responded enthusiastically and suggested several Black actresses who could participate in the season, including Debbi Morgan, Lynn Whitfield, Alfre Woodard, Angela Bassett, Gabrielle Union, Viola Davis, Kerry Washington, Lupita Nyong’o, Halle Berry and Amiyah Scott.

Ross then wrote in a TikTok video that she was “left on read” by Murphy after following up over email. In the email dated Feb. 7, 2022, Ross asked if she could be considered to be involved in writing and producing of the season, writing in the email that “I could add a lot to the table in the overall storyline if we are still looking to do a Black lead cast.”

An individual familiar with the matter told TheWrap that Murphy’s FX anthologies often contemplate multiple ideas before moving forward with a premise to develop for an upcoming season.

For example, the second season of “American Crime Story” was originally supposed to be about Hurricane Katrina before it became “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.” Likewise Season 10 of “American Horror Story” (“Double Feature”) was at risk of having its theme changed due to weather conditions and COVID-19 delays.

On this, Angelica responded

And she goes on saying that the set was transphobic & racist in the name of free speech

Welp :bradley:

Not surprised. She was on 1984 and Double Feature...wonder who the jerk co-star is.

That said, tbf in Ryan's defense, he co-created Pose and is one of the few TV creators to regularly employ Black actresses (and not just young ones) in main roles. I know he's problematic, but it's troubling to realize he's arguably one of the best in regards to diversity....because it shows how low the bar is.

I dont think Ryan Murphy is really the guy to be in charge of an all-black female series. Better to get a black female director/showrunner for her idea than rely on him.

She is so salty over an idea discussed in an EMAIL. A freaking email. I emailed so many employers for a job, doesn't mean I will get hired. So many authors write a whole book, and they can send it to publishers all they want, but it doesn't mean it will get published.
There wasn't even a script or a solid green light. Yes, it is disappointing, but I think she is blowing it out of proportion cause she counted her eggs before they hatched.

So her idea on AHS didn't end up happening and now she is playing the race card because she is upset. I'm not buying it. So many people of colour have worked in AHS through the years and have had good experiences.

Y'all sound like clowns and show very little reading comprehension. She was clearly told by Ryan that her show idea was being picked up, was ghosted when she wanted clarity on if the show/her contract was actually moving forward or not so she could work on something else, and then she didn't end up getting the opportunity to do so because of his unprofessionalism. It's literally all right there.

No the point is RM was essentially holding her hostage from accepting other work. By ghosting her he screwed her out of other jobs too.

Did she sign a contract? If she didnt sign anything, there was no reason for her to wait.

She herself said Marvel called twice. It was her choice to wait even if she was given false promises. In this case, there was not even a promise. She was holding on to wishful thinking despite being ghosted and ignored.

She received a DM in 2020 got crickets and then followed up 2022 and then got the same response.

It's kinda like if you apply for jobs and send emails, not all of them will send a rejection response. Hearing no response IS the rejection.

If you read it, she got a message in 2020 and she emailed again in 2022 to follow up . Like what in the firey pits of iron thin hope was she holding on to not accept any job offers for 2 years based on 1 message.

The silence and lack of response IS the rejection.

She literally says she was still contractually in first position with the show. Which means she couldnt take another job, eg marvel, without getting permission from RM. So yes she had a contract.

Well then that is another story if she does have a contract and I can see why she is upset. But now I have to question how long can they keep actors in contract for a pending show and not earning anything.

I read from her post about "contract option" so I was not clear if it was for the show she was pitching that was held and didn't get a green light or for actually being in whatever Ryan murphy was cooking up for that season.

Yeah, after years of freelancing, I can say that as long as the client is only talking about the project and not actually launching it, I should just keep working on other stuff until it's actually happening.

If the actors' contracts actually stop them from working on other projects, that's really f*cked up and I'm guessing that's one of the reasons for the strike.

Ryan is always glorifying white male actors over black male actors.

He's a racist in disguise.

His fart felt like a kiss
