Do you think Gaga’s Jazz show may tease some Joker songs?

So when Gaga sang Sway last night, I thought it was an interesting choice. While obviously not intentionally written in this way, the lyrics made me think of Harley Quinn and Joker straight away.

It makes me wonder if they will also interpret this song for Joker and Gaga is lowkey teasing (think: I Want Your Love from Tom Ford and it also playing on AHS).

“When marimba rhythms start to play
Dance with me, make me sway
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Hold me close, sway me more”

The “marimba rhythm”, to me, already evokes this kind of chaotic, crazy energy. I always found this line, even in the original, kind of an odd choice. Like… Marimba rhythm? It’s giving me this:

Which is a serve, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not swaying with my lover to this.

“Like a flower bending in the breeze
Bend with me, sway with ease
When we dance, you have a way with me. Stay with me, sway with me.”

Could be interpreted as their minds “bending”. Joker has this hold on her and she is falling into his crazy world as well, due to needing him to stay. She is, or was, this “flower” slowly bending into madness.

“I can hear the sounds of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now”

Baby, if you can hear violins in your head before they start playing, maybe you aren’t all there 🤪 

“Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have that magic technique
When we sway, I go weak”

Speaks, again, to this feeling that Joker has become Harley’s whole world. This love isn’t making her “stronger”, interestingly, it makes her go “weak” as if she is somewhat aware of the danger and his mental state but her love for him has made her too weak to resist.

Am I delusional? Or do you think Gaga might be subtly teasing? I’m sure once the movie is released some audience members will be wanting live performances of some of the songs.

I suspect, as with her other film roles, she'll fight really hard not to overlap her music and acting careers. So, no.

It took ages for her to even sing "Shallow" live as Gaga and it's one of her biggest hits.

Gaga’s a big Rosemary Clooney fan, so it’s not really surprising that she would add this song to the set tbh.
