80's Croatian singer sues The Weeknd for copyright over Save Your Tears

DANIEL POPOVIĆ says he will sue The Weeknd for plagiarism. He says that the melody of the song Save Your Tears reminds him of his song Znam da ti si ta (I Know You're The One) from 1994. That's why, he says, he decided to sue someone for plagiarism for the first time in his life. "We hired a law firm, a record company that will somehow become the owner of this song so that we can continue with it, so that contract is already being prepared. It will be signed and then we go into action."Magazin.

I mean, clearly an attempt at a cash grab, but there are indeed a lot of similarities... Both songs emulate the 80's synth sound.

 

I actually think the Croatian singer imitated the sound of Sweet Harmony

I'm getting Euro interpolation of Save Your Tears from the original, so I see the resemblance for sure. However, how popular was that song? I guess producers have access to everything, idk how anything works.
