Australian Disney fans looking to add to their movie collection will have to get in quickly as the entertainment giant moves to stop releasing DVDs and Blu-ray discs nationally. This covers Marvel, 20th Century Fox, all of it.

The Walt Disney Company confirmed it is pulling out of Australia’s physical media market, and the limited number of Australian and New Zealand stockists will no longer receive DVDs after Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3.

7NEWs.com.au understands the decision is due to dwindling physical sales and the increasing popularity of online home entertainment, such as Disney+.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 will be the last physical release in Australia and is set to arrive in stores in August.

Previously released titles are expected to be available while local retailers sell down their existing stock.

Once sold out, Australian Disney fans keen to get their hands on a DVD will have to turn to international online retailers.

It begins. I am sure this will spread to another continents/countries too next. And will not just be Disney.
Archivist and collectors, or just a fan better get 2-3 of another copies of their fave movies just in case the one you owned is broken and you can't find a new ones in retail market in normal prices.

Physical entertainment is dead, if this happens to music, it literally is over for our collector girliepops.

I understand and hate this idea. They tend to remove movies and shows from streaming all the time so having a physical copy you can at least always watch it whenever 😅

Sad, and continuing to phase out physical media will be bad for pop culture overall. I predict there will be a lot of "lost media" from this era, in 50 years or so

Anything I truly love I buy on physical media. When Battlestar Galactica and the Office left Netflix, I felt so vindicated

True, even Dua's Physical was not very successful compare to other singles

That's why Mariah named her single "Touch My Body" instead of "Physical". It was a huge success.

Then I’m beholden to internet access or a company’s app to use my stuff. If I’m buying something, I want full unrestricted ownership of it
