Now this I will argue against. While it may be true that some otherkin experience genuine delusions, the generic desire to want to be an animal is not in and of itself a mental illness. There is a difference between believing one is an animal and one wanting to be an animal, and I don't believe that the general public distinguishes that difference in regards to otherkin. 

There are many reasons to want to reject humanity and a human lifestyle. If one can do so without infringing upon others, what's the issue?
