Omg. The attendance for the BWT was four times higher and the tickets were like a quarter of the cost, even adjusted for inflation :poot:

So...not much of an accomplishment when you think about it :poot:

well it is a major accomplishment if he has a sold out stadium-only tour..... BTW Ball had so many shows because many were in smaller arenas, as small as 8000 people. Wherever she could pull the numbers, Gaga did stadium shows, as she is doing nowadays. And her tickets are more expensive than for BTW Ball.

That would be like saying that A Star is Born didn't accomplish much in cinemas because another movie had more viewers on Netflix.

I don't see how millions of people maying top dollar to attend a stadium only tour is not an accomplishment. It is, whether it The Weeknd, or Gaga or Beyonce or whoever.

I meant in relation to the record itself, friend.

Only 25% the number of actual concert goers but they squeezed more cash out of them. MJ and other artists could have charged more 40 years ago and he'd still have the record. Abel's tickets are five times as expensive, on average and adjusted for inflation, so of course he made more money :messga:

If it's influenced so easily by a price tag and the normalization of concerts being comparatively ridiculous in price these days to what they were decades ago then it really isn't much of an achievement to beat this record.

I compared it to getting a medal for winning an Olympic race but they let you use your car while the other runner was on foot :ladyhaha:

Again, I don't really care about the record, I'm just saying :laughga:

ticket prices  back then were different because costs were different. There is no comparison between the technology used then and the technology used now. Touring has become a much bigger business and more money is invested, and more money is being made from touring.

I would actually love to know how much it costs to produce these shows to compare :lolly:

For now, I'll stick to my narrative and I'll crunch the numbers (in a simple way, I'm too tired to do otherwise hihi) to provide an adjusted tour gross for MJ :ally:

Had MJ charged as much as The Weeknd then...

Ticket prices are five times higher...

There's four times as many people...

MJ grossed $311 million in 2023 monies....

311 x 5 x 4 gives us...

An adjusted tour gross of $6.2 billion :diane:

the problem with your theory is that people back then wouldn't have paid that much money for a ticket, it was unheard of... MJ and Madonna were already charging more than the others. They had exorbitant prices for that time and that's how they broke records back then. It's literally the same story with different numbers.

Didn't know touring was his thing. He doesn't seem like an artist who could pull such large audience. Genuinely surprised:enigma:

i find it surprising too :bradley: I'm attending his argentinian date and i never before realized how popular he is here!  he sold out our biggest stadium and the second date will definitely do so closer the date imo

tour looks sickening from the pictures ive seen, didnt watch much since i dont want to spoil the whole show. Glad he earned this, he's a great entertainer

... and now i just sit in silence.

he started this tour in 2018 and had over 300 shows, The Weeknd's tour has 64 shows.

im not comparing elton to abel, im happy for both

but im happy its elton and not ed sheeran or U2 like it was before.

and regardless of how many shows, its impressive someone in their 70s can achieve this

She more than likely will. Her European tour alone performed massively and she is playing even more dates in the US. Beyond that, she is supposedly set to announce dates for Africa and potentially Australia and Asia as well.

Dates in the US are being canceld due to a lack of interest? —- thats what on eu news.

Do you know if she is really? Or is it just wishful thinking

The European leg covered nearly half of this gross, and she has a lot of North American dates that had more expensive tickets coming up, so I’m thinking it’s possible

4th Time Around

Why do people even care about stuff like this? I get tired of the constant comparing of stats between fanbases as if it matters at all.
