IG teases new platform, identical to Twitter

It took a while to get Twitter to stand in the main stage of THEE social media platforms, yet it's taking nothing to destroy that. I'm not so sure another platform will manage to replicate what Twitter had. Though I'll keep my hopes up that there will be a good one– but I doubt this is the one.

It’s a double edged sword. It’s something at surface level that makes you go “wtf” when you realize. But also, the internet as whole and a lot of major advancements in how we use it have historically been tied to it. When you simplify it to its core it makes sense though, it’s something that regardless of a persons background there is an innate human desire to appeal to in almost everyone.

I keep saying to people that all Meta does is ****ing steal every other function of every social media that is popular at the time, constantly trying to corner every single market, instead of just focussing on what their app does well and improving the user experience to make it great. It's ironic considering Instagram stole stories from Snapchat. But I agree that it's pretty much the only thing I use it for now. If Snapchat majorly improved it's discover algorithm and created a better interface for the stories page they'd probably give Instagram a run for it's money.

I agree on both things. I hate it so much. I know Meta tried to buy Snapchat, they said no, so Meta just stole 'stories' and threw it at the top of Instagram, and soon Snapchats stocks bombed. So evil.

Then they decided to insert ads in the timeline and take away chronological order, then doubled the amount of ads, then added them between stories. Added a 'shopping' tab for some reason (surely to make more money). Went ahead and linked messages with Messenger. Then screwed up the algorithm in 'discover' so noone really has a chance of getting anywhere unless they were already popular. Once TikTok became popular what did they do? Completely ripped it off and created reels. Now that Twitter is in trouble they see a way to capitalise on it by copying Twitter! I bet you anything they've had this function ready to go for a long time and were just holding onto it until Elon inevitably made a decision so stupid people wanted to jump ship. So it was nice and ready to suck them all in.

Literally all they had to do was give us the option to have chronological order back, invested in developing a new, amazing discover algorithm to rival TikToks, had a better discovery system than the awful hashtags they currently use, made the layout more user friendly, allowed us to choose if our likes are visible or not (a lot of us used to find new users and new content through our friends' likes), and focussed on actually taking down really bad accounts rather than hiding LGTBQIA+ content, and implementing some performative BS 'no bullying, no swear words' crap that doesn't even work.. and then maybe they would be successful in having their own unique platform that users love to navigate.

Instagram used to be like a diary of people's lives. A collection of moments you deemed worthy of going up in your digital scrapbook to share with friends. It was something unique. Now it's just some bloated, hybrid monstrosity of Facebook, Snapchat, Ali Express, TikTok, Tumblr, Twitter that crawled its way out of the lab to die

I see it differently. Rather than pr0n sites not cutting it anymore, there are shift in how people navigate the internet.

Twitter had evolved into one stop service sites that offered all kinds of topics that you may seek. Think of it like reddit but easier to navigate.
