Is Dua’s sound getting tired?

Future Nostalgia came out in 2020, 3 years ago.  But everything she’s released since and recently have all sounded like FN outtakes.

Her new song for the Barbie movie is no exception.

will she evolve musically anytime soon or continue putting out disco fused dance pop songs?

I like her sound, but it is getting repetitive, and I'd love to hear her experiment more

She said her next album will sound different, and will be more personal. But I just cant imagine a personal album from Dua Lipa.

This is funny because it’s like the opposite of the other thread where another user was complaining that Gaga “abandoned” her core fans for not making music that sounded like his fave era, and instead going in different musical directions.  But when an artist does stick to her core, popular sound, people also complain.  Artists can’t really win. 

I actually like Dua’s sound.

Dua found a lane that works really well for her voice. Even if she isn’t creating anything earth shattering, I’m still vibing

Gaga and Britney sound doesnt get old, but Dua's FN sound is getting really old and tired for some reason. I think its because of lack of creativity and growth within the same sound.

Maybe I'm just a hater, but I feel like Dua Lipa is more of a trendy entertainer that does whatever is "in", than an ever-evolving artist per se. Her self-titled was a very on-trend mid-late 2010s pop album in the light of "Closer" by The Chainsmokers, "The Middle" by Zedd, etc. and Future Nostalgia was on trend as well, coming out at the same time as records like After Hours, Disco and What's Your Pleasure.

Every song Dua has tried to push since FN has felt like a tired, generic reject from that album, probably because that album did numbers and changed the trajectory of her career

All those albums were released after her album, or released at the same time. I dont think pop or disco was on trend at the time.

Well I am gonna need to hear her next album before I make up my mind about that. There is nothing wrong if she wants to keep making dance music but I do hope we start hearing more experimentation.

There's definitely a difference, though; Gaga has always done something unique, whether lyrically or aesthetically or as a complete package. Nobody could've made Born This Way but Lady Gaga. Joanne was a shocking moment, and it worked (as much as gays cry about it being country, which it is not). Chromatica was a 90s house record about mental health, caught in a flow of disco revival projects and 2016 pop overflow.

With Dua Lipa, I feel like everything she's released since inception has been perfectly/solely tailored for pop radio airplay, adapting itself to whatever sells at the time of release. She doesn't have a vibe that's uniquely hers, and her only apparent identity as an artist is 1 album she made 3 years ago, the more successful project out of the 2 albums and various singles of differing quality/sub-genre in her catalog.

This is just me, but outside of a few flavourful singles Dua makes the disco genre feel... "boring"

Her new song for the Barbie soundtrack feels like it was made by 5 corporate suits who listened to "Can't Stop the Feeling" after 2 espresso Martini.

All that aside I'm keen to see what she can bring next album cycle (sonically)

I really didn’t like the Barbie release, I thought Dua could release so much better it felt like a poor imitation of a Dua Lipa song. Dua songs are epic, they are so charged, the lyrics and production 10’s, this felt like a 6.
