It's wild how some of you literally think performative activism is the most important form of activism when it is just that - performative. We know Gaga has always acted backstage, through lobbying and philanthropism. We know her foundation helps real people with their real problems. And yet, for some fans, it is *essential* to tweet some cliché or to scream in the streets to be a REAL gay icon. :saladga: if you need more evidence that Gaga really cares about the community, how are you still here, how do you consider yourself a fan? :saladga:

The fact you all are still debating ****:triggered: I'm sorry but some of you were just mean to her when she posted the ad. Like I said, I understand if you were mad over the ad in general and disappointed towards her not saying anything about pride month, but to question her integrity and commitment towards her artistry and the LGBTQ+ community? Some of you were making excuses in justifying your means of expressing your frustration, and by that I meant bullying her over something that could've been worded or done better in a non-aggressive way, but no, some of you were just plain aggressive and mean. Just stop it, and the way some of you were even ignoring the fact that some users here in GGD were literally being hostile towards her and her team, it's not cool and you're not better than those who ignored the wrongs of what Gaga did. I'm not defending those who chose to ignore the wrong in her posting a pharmaceutical ad, but damn the ego some of you had really got to their head and would blatantly just mention anything just to go along with the negativity surrounding Gaga. Now that Gaga posted something and spoke about her silence, you would think that this is something more that would bring awareness towards their own wrongdoings as well, but no, you would still literally try and justify those shitty things that you all have said. Those are not "valid criticisms". Saying that she's a money making machine, a sellout, a fake, without even having a proper discussion towards why and how you came up to that conclusion, those are not valid criticisms. The way some of you would try to even manipulate the narrative how like from "being critical isn't hating" when it should've been "hating isn't being critical". Just admit it, some of you were being shitty and have blown things out of proportion that day.

I knew she would say it. There was no need for this hate and if she wants more privacy for herself I respect her. Not every artist wants to be constantly active on social media. I still love her

It's weird to observe this relationship between her and fans and the "feeding" dynamic it carries. I, too, long for her presence, to see her art, photos, music. It's a gut feeling, she's captivating, she puts on a spell, her art crawls under your skin and it's an overload to the senses and it's a deep connection everytime we get something. She used to be way more comfortable doing that, naturally, sharing her process. She was in a phase of emanating youth, you could see she felt good having that interaction. However, the internet changed A LOT, too much. Youtube didn't have ads, twitter was funnier and not so heavy, Instagram came later but it was just photos. I used to post a lot on Instagram, today I can't even push the button to post a story, it's been months. And it's not a choice, it's a feeling of displacement, that social media doesn't feel like a place where you can comfortably post something. I don't know, it's weird, it has to do with not wanting your image circulating there. Maybe more people feel like this, Instagram became a shopping mall. Twitter became a flood of fancam and memes and discourse and language that is repeated over and over and over and over again, no real connection. It's only understandable she would post only ads, not even her pressing post. She seems to like TikTok though, which I'm still trying to understand, but I guess she establishes a deeper connection with those videos.

But my point is why do we engage with her as if she is a folkloric figure, a person with discourse elements attached to her figure, and that we need her to keep pushing that discourse because it's familiar. For me, it feels like she wants her birds to take flight, she's done her share of nurturing, and that left her drug abusing and suicidal. Stefani wanted to kill Gaga. Sometimes I imagine myself if I went somewhere, and got the looks, the phones being held up, the videos, the constant harassing. Imagine someone you don't know saying they love you, imagine someone you don't know asking for a picture and your signature, imagine someone you don't know crying in front you. Now imagine yourself putting your head to your pillow after that and processing that. Fame causes a cognitive overload of information through that interaction and it's something very few people endure in the world. Some like it a lot, it inflates their ego, they think they're the best person alive. That's not her case.

She is an extremely intelligent person, she thinks about philosophy of art and talks about it in interviews in a way that no one else of her caliber does. She is an extremely sensitive person, if you are or know sensitive people, you know that their relationship with the world is deep, full of pain and questions about the human nature, what we're here for, what is the world. And we can also observe how sensitive people tend to interpret things their specific way and put their foot down on what they believe. The senses get chaotic on sensitive people, the simple act of pushing a post button becomes an entire existencial question. And in this feeding relationship we have with her, we forget she's a human, under the spotlight, in a world she has strong opinions about, being famous which she also has strong opinions about, making art which she, again, has strong opinions about. When we demand things from her, we do it reading our senses, our feeling of need, of wanting to be fed, so her art can crawl under our skin once again. But on the other side there's a person, healing immense trauma, navigating a weird world only a few get to experience, while being empathetic, kind and with a purpose if doing nothing more than good to people. When she says she "just wants the public to smile", you can see her need of serving. You can observe that through BTW Foundation activity online, you can see that in interviews when she talks about her work and the world. But no one can be a servant 100% of the time, even less when that service is under the spotlight, and even less when they think about that spotlight daily, when they suffer from that spotlight. I can only imagine how it is to have her mind and her life. It must be a life of constant conflict.

I’m so glad I read it until the end. YES. ALL OF THIS.

sis you nailed and ended this thread. honestly you should be a politician because I’d vote for you to be President.

Well of course, since it isn't about social media. It's her complete silence on LGBT issues in the past year. And of course the people who need it know about it, but we are talking about people who don't know about it, which is most of America.  Also, I'm pretty sure the foundation is ran by her mother, Gaga funding it doesn't mean she's doing it.

Both can coexist, it's just honestly disgusting how she has so much power and influence and she could be using her image to talk about those issues. Whether it be a social media post, interview, a tv special. Also you're really downplaying the impact of social media in today's politics, and how being vocal on it can help so much with the general view.

I'll eat my words if she does something big, doesn't excuse that it took her all this time. This isn't the time to stay backstage and hide, this is the time of urgency. It's crazy how you all can defend her as long as she makes promise of new music

Silence in terms of what she is putting online (which is only though *social media* that she has a large reach, so it is about that) Gaga made Cynthia the head so it can be her full time job, it is very much one of Gaga's every day jobs - they do it together.

As she wrote, she has been working. The ads for Haus Labs are a part of that as it is a business (money from each purchase also goes towards BTW Foundation also) so, even in a way that is doing it's piece.

We wont agree, I get that, I'm not going to try and change your mind. I am a gay man who cares deeply about these subjects, I am not upset by it in the slightest, and it is not because of the 'promise of music'. I just know she is doing more than enough.

AkariGaga

I feel sad that she was kinda pushed and also kinda bullied to reveal her upcoming projects.

And how dare some of so called fans accuse her of fake activism .

BTW album and BTW song saved a lot of lives of LGBTQ youth including mine.

I wonder what type of education you got at home that makes you this dense, rude, egoistical and hypocrite. Truly fascinating.

"This celebrity HAS to do something BIG so I can forgive her for not writing a few words on Pride month! Is the only way! Idgaf about all the things she said all these years, the things she has done all these years, THIS MONTH SHE SAID NOTHING and that invalidates her entirely! Make something BIG FOR ME and I'll forgive you!"

I wonder how privileged you have to be to not get why her public allyship would mean so much. Also the way you're so set on defending a rich white woman by calling me all those names, just shows a lot about you. Go fill out a job application

Like you not understanding why her, one of the biggest allies, staying silent is problematic just shows how privileged you are. Not even to mention that a few words is the bare minimum from her, she of all people should be doing the most now. We are living in the now, not in the past - something people here can't seem to comprehend.

It's okay though, some people are meant to not get the bigger picture

Everyone feeling a social media post is important to making a change in society is exactly what Gaga was referencing when she called twitter the toilet of the internet.
Social Media doesn’t make change. Yes it brings awareness but it doesn’t create policy/pass laws. I genuinely challenge you to please get off the internet and maybe vote locally, or find a charity, or do some community service for LGBT groups in your area. That will get us a LOT farther than relying on a pop star to tweet.

She IS a public ally and has proven that continuously, and you are sounding like a stuborn brat but feel it is justified by the cause, no. You're trying to invalidate someones entire careers worth of change because she hasnt mentioned pride this month and I think that clearly shows you are irrational & have a lot of things to reconsider. Why dont you go out and make some change happen rather than waiting for Gaga to post something on insta. :saladga:

Who says I'm not doing anything? She is not a public ally at the moment. Link me a post from her account where she condemns the anti LGBT laws in the last year. Quickly. Or where she talks about the drag bans, or the attacks on trans people.

If you think this is just about a happy pride post, it truly shows how privileged you are. I have nothing to reconsider, it's all factual. You do have to reconsider why her silence means nothing to you, probably because you aren't impacted by the political climate.
