His dad is tv/film/theater executive producer Marc Platt (Legally Blonde, Scott Pilgrim v the World, La La Land, Cruella, The Little Mermaid, Wicked (theater show and film). He's always been very supportive of his son (good) to the extent that he basically uses his power to get Ben preferential treatment in casts and roles beyond what he'd usually get 9bad)

Ben was the lead in Dear Evan Hanson on Broadway, his dad went OTT with the Tonys campaigning, people started to turn against him. His dad helped fund the film adaptation and was also exec producer, basically on the condition that Ben would get the lead role (despite being visibly a decade too old for the role at the time).

The film was a flop and had a lot of criticism of Ben's casting, which Ben and his dad were really arrogant and dismissive of. Ben and his dad basically said "the film never would've happened without me,, so deal with it"

That's really cool hope they do him justice. I really like his You and I version and can't believe "I Wanna Love You But I Don't" wasn't a bigger hit, that'd have been huge if Adele, Ed Sheeran or maybe Sam Smith released it.
