When ppl think of word pandemic I think they often imagine the worse outbreaks like Spanish Flu, H1N1, Sares and now Covid-19 cuz they just spread like wildfire and a huge number of ppl get infected all at once and efforts to avoid it often fail

 

I almost feel the like word "pandemic" should be broken down into a special category when it's major ones like this cuz HIV and Monkey Pox is definitely not even close to the same kind of scope as covid 

Perceived scope maybe, HIV still kills over 600k people per year, even when treatment is available, and has killed over 40M overall. Compare it to Covid which has killed 6M.

While it is trending downward, it doesn’t seem over, imho. I just wish we were still talking about it and promoting continued vaccination.

There's a new subvariant rising, Arcturus. Seems to be more contagious and also adds in pink eye as a fun symptom  I've read that our current vaccines should still work against it though

Yes but I think u missed a key difference I was getting at...

 

There's things u can do to minimize such risks of getting infected... It's not the same wildfire explosion in infections

 

Covid was harder to avoid cuz a simple casual exchange can get u the virus and there isn't something like a condom or monogamy that can make risks really low. Covid u can take all the precautions in the world and odds are u would still be exposed to covid eventually even with a vaccine

 

Obviously not as deadly as HIV if exposed... But that sheer number and inability to avoid it made the pandemic a bigger deal for most of the population

 

I'd say it's not just perceived scope. For the majority of the population especially if they are careful, covid was a bigger threat than HIV

I suspect that it has something to do with me being not in crowds and busy places a lot (like restaurants, bars, clubs and so on). My Covid virginity got taken 2 weeks ago. I got it from people at home so even if I didn't go out, Covid came to me.  I'm vaxxed and boosted twice. The annoying part is I feel like I can work but also you cant because you are contagious. It really is hard to tell apart from a normal cold now. I still had to stay home for a 10 days, and do Covid tests but really it depends on the place where you work/study. The lingering side effect is dry cough in your throat even after 2 weeks after it. The experience is a stark contrast to how it was before vaccines where people I know had a bad fever for 3-4 days and had to stay in bed.
