don't know what it's like in the US but in the UK there is a strict curriculum on what is taught and it's all fact based real information that kids need to know, and stuff that will help them later in life.

Lmao you guys are lucky

Public school sucks a$$ and honestly teachers when I was there definitely didn’t give a single sh!t and if they actually did they were fired or left to a better place

Completely get her being scared to send her kids to school in america but yeah that was a bad slip up. Her apology seemed genuine though, I think she just got heated and doesn't actually think all teachers are bad.

I've so much respect for Teachers. I couldn't do what they do, Imagine having to deal with so many kids/teens every single day and not even get paid well for it.

Just like the other person on this thread making a fool of themselves, you are obviously either too arrogant or ignorant to understand how Meghan’s comments are a huge issue that feed into this growing right-wing plan of sowing distrust in teachers and dismantling the public education system. If and when Republicans successfully privatize the system for white students and leave little to no public funding to educate black and brown students who can’t afford private schools you’ll wish you hadn’t been so blasé.

I certainly hope you aren’t a teacher with how you fragrantly throw insults around so easily!

Ignoring those though, I agree with the second half of your comment but again, a quick off the cuff comment that someone said doesn’t require this level of analysis and outrage.

@faysalaaa1 @Benji @weed @ProfessionalClown Maybe take a few minutes to educate yourself on why Meghan’s words are so troubling and harmful before running to her defense.

You realize public school has been sh!t since about like the mid 2000’s right? Got worse in the early 2010’s. The Americans education system has been a joke for years. It’s obvious republicans are trynna defund and derail public schooling but it sucks still lmao.

@SamanthaC From one teacher to another, can you shut this thread down because obviously we have a lot of members who don’t fully understand the seriousness of these attacks on teachers and our public school system.

It was such an off the cuff comment though.  If we were discussing the negatives of school (like they were) and someone said to me “f*ck teachers” I’d agree because I also had some terrible teachers.  I also had good ones but in that moment, it seems like a perfectly normal response in the context of the conversation.

If we recorded everything we said in conversation and analysed it we would all find faults or wish we elaborated on points more, like we would in writing, but conversations don’t happen like that.

It’s a whole lot of something over a throwaway comment.

The problem though is this wasn’t just a throw away comment or a random conversation that was recorded. It was for a podcast and mass distributed.

The arguing that is going to getting nowhere here. And because I can, I'm putting the last word in.

Unless you've worked in the field of education, you have no idea what it's like. (Speaking specifically to the US because that is what I know.) Within the last few years teachers have been bullied, made out to be horrible people and just really not treated as professionals. It is absolutely insane the amount of student discipline and abuse from parents that educators are faced with every day. (Plus the accusations from politicians like we are trying to indoctrinate kids, if we were able to do that then we'd have 100% proficiency on all these standardized assessments.) I've been in education for 16+ years and have never seen the disrespect for educators like I have since the pandemic started. Yes, there are bad people in every profession. But there are also good people. Not to mention, teachers are faced with risking their lives almost daily with the way things are in the US right now. The problem with the comments made in this podcast is that it further spreads the lies that all teachers are bad and out there to harm children, when that is not the case at all. Most of us really care about our job and the students we work with, otherwise we wouldn't still be doing it, not like we are making a decent amount of money to stay in the profession.
