Exactly. Marvel has been doing stuff like this forever. They know everything leaks sooner or later, so it's better to have controlled "leaks" in the form of their actors looking like they have accidentally revealed too much. They know exactly what they're allowed to say - especially on a talk show. Typically those conversations and questions are on rails and have to be approved before being asked so there can be a proper response planned. It would be constant PR nightmares if that wasn't happening.

familiars are basically animals, in some stories they can morph into their human form.

Wiccan is a human, one of Wanda's sons, so if Locke is playing a familiar, he can't be Wiccan.

Unless there is a twist and he's really Wiccan but the witches decided to erase his memories or whatever and make him think that he's a familiar, so they can keep him closer and controlled (typical Hollywood plot)
