There's never been any rumours about them breaking up before, so this can't be coming from nowhere and its being reported by sources that are apparently legit, so this is real, then? I suppose Taylor never makes a formal announcement when she has a breakup, come to think of it, we just no longer see her with the person and then we see her with someone new, so yeah, this might be all the confirmation we get. Gotta be honest, even as someone who isn't a fan, I'm...weirdly sad about this. I was one of many who laughed at her inability to hold onto a guy for more than 3 months for all these years, Calvin was finally the one that was lasting but that was over in about 2 years and she proceeded to go down the same route again with Tom Hiddleston immediately afterwards and it seemed she was back to the old way. Then Joe came along and she just kept this relationship quiet and discreet for the first time ever and it paid off, year after year, including 5 albums that were mostly all about him. 6 years later, they were still together, seemingly still so in love. I told myself when they started dating that after her dating history, she'd need to be with someone for at least 5 years before I took any of her relationships seriously and she'd passed the mark by a year, so I was fully expecting her to marry him by now. There were definitely references to this in her work. The song, Lover, contains a line about something being borrowed and blue and there were rumours for over a year now that they secretly got engaged (with some even saying they got married in secret but I highly doubt she'd be keeping this quiet by now and we never saw her wear a ring). I can't imagine what it'll be like for her to go on this world tour singing so many songs that are all about him and how happy she is with him. I looked through her setlist and while I can't remember how many songs on all her most recent albums were about him, I counted 11 for sure. That's at the very least a good quarter of her setlist. And the eras are scattered throughout so it's not like once a certain section is over, there's no more songs about him, they pop up all over the place, including the start and the end. Tragically, Mastermind is the second last song she sings, which is a song you really don't want to sing after a breakup with the person is about (it's all about how she always knew from first seeing him that they were made for each other and she used the law of attraction to get him to be with her and she masterminded the whole thing). It's clear that Midnights shows she was still 100% in love with him and that only came out a few months ago and the tour setlist also has all these songs about him, so clearly, if they have indeed broken up, this must have been VERY recent. Wow, this turned into a long post, this is affecting me more than I thought as someone who isn't even a fan. But regardless of what you think of her, the breakdown of a public relationship that's been going on this long is sad. To see her perform Champagne Problems, a song about a fictional couple who break up after the man proposes to the girl and she says no, a song she wrote with Joe while they were happy together, with tears welling up as she realises that this song has now become real for her is heartbreaking.
