Yes it will vary according to the sports practiced and the transition being towards woman or man. The hormone therapy's gain or loss in muscle mass will have impact for example. The top 10 fastest runners are all men Women do better in extreme long distance sports like ultra running and long distance swimming. The gap between men and women start to close in extreme ultra-marathoning. Look up Pam Reed, who was the first human to run 300 miles straight. Women burn fat more efficiently than men, thus, over extraordinarily long distances (swimming is the same way), where the proportion of calorie expenditure shifts towards fat more than carbs and protein, women have a physiologic advantage. (this is not me saying i don’t think trans kids can play. just that this is weak evidence for them to play)
Fuffy 1,049
This is the most sensible decision in a difficult scenario. The science is still in infancy. I don't think any reasonable scientist would say we have the information to gauge the impact of being transgendered on performance and make a one-size-fits-all conclusion like the left and right are trying to do. So far, the studies seem to sway in favour of transwomen retaining some biological advantages against the actual markers that indicate it being lower from treatment like hormone therapy. There are exceptions in the data, however. Unfortunately, it will take a lot of time to collect enough information due to the scarcity of trans athletes to evaluate. This gets even more complicated because this is at high school level, so studies on teenagers are a little harder to run due to privacy and safety. It's likely going to vary by sport too, so we just have to be patient. I think the government is right to disallow blanket ban, I'd let the competition organizers decide that themselves. I'd wager it might be most effective to allow trans people to compete in 50% of competitions within a sport but not all of them. So a trans track runner could compete in X competition but not in Y competition, despite both having the same formats. It would also support the data by pointing out any correlations and seeing what % of competitions with a trans person has them emerge as the winner or not. I think people across the political spectrum want an immediate, perfect solution but the reality is there isn't one yet. We need to be comfortable with the situation being complicated and be respectful to everyone. It's trickier now we have a cultural climate that makes compromise look weak and anti-progress, when it actually might be the foot in the door excluded groups need. Debithius 6,056
I mean, if you transition after puberty then there are certain advantages you cannot reverse with any amount of estrogen. If you transition before puberty then that's different.
Horny Chicken 10,932
There is literally no scientific evidence that men are more advantageous than women in sports. They should be allowed to compete together.

lavender blonde 692
Science above politics. Biological men have advantage in almost everything physical compared to biological women. That's the fact, that's what they teach us in medical schools. We can only argue if trans females started transitioning early in childhood, but it's rarely the case (sadly) for trans people. Even if we consider a trans female that has "female-like" physical conditions, not having period and menstrual cycle FOREVER WILL BE ADVANTAGE COMPARED TO CIS WOMEN. Seperating by height, weight and mass and or muscle mass makes more sense U may very well end up with some categories disproportionately having a lot more males than females and vice versa but that's irrelevant. As long as the body abilities are roughly the same, the categories would make sense

Dude, you dont need a study to know men are stronger than women, its basic knowledge. Banning trans women from sports could POTENTIALLY be bigoted and transphobic, but for now, we dont have enough scientific answers. I do have a question though, would you allow trans women who did not take hormones to participate in womens sports?
