badfaith 5,673
I honestly agree. I believe it is time that Drag Race shines and portrays ballroom and vogue correctly to teach hundreds of people literally a pillar of queer history. I'm not saying that it should be treated seriously every time a queen vogues but at least bring in actual experts on the art form to teach the queens maybe in a mini or maxi challenge in one episode or something. This is not a ballroom show, but it is a queer show nonetheless and if they can incorporate cheerleading then they can def incorporate ballroom. The thing is ballroom is SO VAST they couldn’t even do like a full season to even do all that. That’s why ballroom centric shows like legendary are great because drag race ain’t gonna do it cuz they ain’t got the time
Chlorine 47,975
I get where Aja and Leiomy are/have been coming from and they have every right to speak on the subject, but I think they're gatekeeping and putting too much responsibility on Drag Race. When there's an acting challenge, you don't have real actors or directors belitting the show, because it's just for entertainment value and it doesn't really warrant any further scrutiny, and that goes without saying. Obviously voguing/ballroom is different because it represents a marginalized group and is more closely tied to drag itself, and Drag Race should try to portray it with dignity and accuracy as much as possible... but at some point, Aja and Leiomy need to let go and not be that worried that others are misrepresenting their artform. It's part of what comes with the territory when something becomes mainstream. You can't control how it shows up everywhere.

bionic 44,004
IDK where this narrative that Drag Race appropriates from ballroom culture comes from. The show and performance styles are clearly very influenced by it but the show and RuPaul themself is CONSTANTLY directly referencing ballroom culture, Paris is Burning gets a shout out pretty much every year, Ru is not afraid to pay tribute to other drag legends by name etc… if viewers choose not to educate themselves that’s on them. The show does its part buy bionic

Wolf Boy 3,172
Aja needs to get over herself. Drag Race is not a ballroom show. If you want that, go to a Ballroom.

Yes because she is using the trans card to get free access to using other slurs... (sarcasm) I'm totally impressed how people doesn't seem to bother about she using the n word just because she is a trans woman...
Omar Vela 2,546
I know RuPaul isn't an angel that came from heaven who doesn't do any harm... but I'm so tired of Aja, Nina Bonina and Pearl dragging DR and RuPaul to get any attention... They are famous BECAUSE of drag race, they should at least be thankful. Also, I'm not saying this to be funny or anything, but Aja NEEDS a psychiatrist. I wouldn't include Nina in that category though. I recommend you pay attention to what she says on this because she has some points and gives her perspective in an honest, unfiltered way. Precisely that way comes across as hate to people who don't understand so they jump on the hate train and take her every word out of context.
