Can't believe there are people in here saying she could roll out of bed and do a piano performance. 

When has Gaga EVER given a simple piano performance? Especially at one of the world's most high profile entertainment events?

She doesn't just play, she practically rewrites the song by emphasizing or changing lyrics, playing with the melody, even singing in different notes or octaves. And that doesn't even include the body language and other stage presence things she does during her performance.

All that takes time. And we know she does method acting so she's probably still in Harley Quinn mode, making it even more difficult to give a Gaga performance.

I saw Gaga perform HMH last summer and it was gorgeous. She was fully committed to TCB and now she is fully committed to a movie. Whether it's music or a movie, Gaga puts everything into every performance. An Oscars performance while she is filming Joker is too much.  
Oscars executive producer Glenn Weiss acknowledges that they waited to confirm because they would've loved for Gaga to perform but he understands that the movie is the priority: “she is in the middle of shooting a movie right now, and here we are honoring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie... That's what's a priority in this business."

Going back and forth on her decision is perfectly understandable. She 's not fully aware of her free time or availability when involved in a job like FAD. But it also emphasize the problem EVERY versatile person working several jobs or wearing multiple hats will unavoidably meet : the unability to fulfill multiple duties at the same time. Moreover if you are a perfectionist.

The majority of single job people don't admit or even understand such a dilemma.

Exactly. After all, even if she never won another one (but I'm sure she will), she already has an Oscar and will be credited as "Academy Award Winner" for the rest of her life.
