Teletubby 137,749
Anitta is lashing out at her label Warner Music, saying she regrets signing with the label. She went on a Twitter tirade last week when fans prodded her to explain her tortured history with Warner. When one fan said he wished she could be free of her contract, she responded that “if there was a fine to pay, I would have already auctioned off my organs, no matter how expensive it was to get out. But unfortunately, there isn’t. When you’re young and still don’t know a lot, you need to pay close attention to the things you sign… if you don’t, you could spend a lifetime paying for the mistake.” Anitta signed with Warner Music in the US in January 2020 after previously signing with Warner Music Brazil in 2013. Under the US contract, she produced Versions of Me, which was executive produced by Ryan Tedder. Anitta has said she’s required to deliver two more albums for the label to satisfy the contract. (In January 2022, she signed a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing.) Anitta has previously swiped at the label for having to pay for music videos out of her own pocket, including for “Gata,” which she said Warner refused to produce a video for when they saw that the song’s performance on streaming platforms was falling below expectations. “They only invest after it pays off on the internet,” Anitta said in in May. “Unfortunately, there are things I can’t get, that’s why I don’t buy millionaire cars, because when I want to do something, I pay for it.” During the same livestream, Anitta also said that Warner only invests in her work after a song goes viral on TikTok. “The label is very tied to TikTok, to what goes viral, and if they don’t get a hit right away, they say ‘later,’” she said. ALGAYDO 30,350
The music industry is crumbling right before our eyes. It’s always been a shíthole, but within the past few decades, shít has really hit the fan. The fact that labels only support you when there’s instant-gratification instead of actually investing in artists, the fact that streaming had completely stream-rolled sales, the fact that established artists (Charli, Halsey, Florence, P!nk, FKA, etc.) are being forced to doing TikToks in order for their label to release their work, the fact that going viral is the only way an artist can catch a break… No wonder many artists are straying into makeup and acting (Gaga, Weeknd, Doja, Ari, etc.) instead of music

Why invest in a MV by a song that didn't turn out to be a hit anyway... it's quite frankly always been like that just in different forms. Idk you are signed for being a pop music star by these major labels why would you expect anything different? fan-tas-tique, chic, freak, slaaaay
Monstermilo 3,827
labels have always been about instant gratification..... and if you cannot achieve longevity, they wont make you a priority, thats always been the name of the game unfortunately

YouTube is dead, and investing in videos is a waste of money. Streaming platforms/TikTok help many smaller artists to get audience and it took away some of the power that the major labels had. They can't just send a song to the radio and put it on playlists and have a hit because listeners have more choice and greater access to different music. Listeners are now more important than they used to be.
