a guy who said the N word in 2021 in some recording and then did the usual celebrity apology/donation and "i'll learn" thing and he literally never lost any fans so it's just really awkward because it reveals country music's issues. But overall it's not really a him problem. It's a country music/culture problem.

I do not support what he said, but I do not think it is fair to suggest that due to something said in the past, a person cannot grow or apologies and efforts to make up for that are not sincere.

I agree with what you’re saying, but his massive success seemed to come right after the “scandal”. It almost felt like racist America chose to buy that album to support him BECAUSE he had said something racist.

It is exactly like this. Even in Italy if you are fascist and racist you have fans and support and artists who don't support those horror are getting dragged on daily basis.

But seriously what do you want from him? He said it, he apologized. He donated money. He hasn’t said anything racist since. He identified the issue, apologized, tried to help the community, changed, and moved on. What more can a human being do? 
 

When people on this site make a mistake, which we all do a human beings; do we want forgiveness and opportunity to learn and grow? Or do we want to be outcast from society and never have the chance to make it right? I really don’t understand this side of our culture. You guys expect to never lend someone a second chance, yet if you make a mistake, you expect the forgiveness and the opportunity to make Right. Why is this hypocrisy here?

he was already successful in the US before this scandal. his last album debuted with 265k→159k (2nd week)→130k(3rd week) and then the scandal happened and his album sales increased by 14 percent.

I think there is definitely something to explore with this for sure. I don’t know everything though, so not going to say much. But I just wanted to tell you I think you’ve got validity in this point

I knew never to use the N word since I was a child, I knew it was bad and not to be said - period. I will forever look at a grown ass white man sideways for choosing to use this word, especially at his big age and in the current social and political climate. This is of course also factoring in that it is a racist and disgusting word.

Also, did he ‘change’ and ‘learn’ because he wanted to, or because he was dragged? If his apology was not for you, it certainly isn’t for you to choose when and how to accept and move on from it either.

This is fair, but his first album topped the country charts and was #10 on billboard and his follow up that was released before the scandal was also #1 on billboard.

Absolutely! I fully agree with this. And yet, the people who are angry the most are the white gays inserting themselves into an issue. At least from what I can see on any tweet or social media post.

Not saying he wasn’t successful before, but an increase of 14% AFTER the scandal does show a weirdly positive response by his fans to his racist remarks. And after that it showed unusual longevity.

Gotta be honest, I'd never heard of the guy until his racism scandal. I know, country music is so niche and as a non-American, there's very few country artists that I know of or care about but I know more than the average international non-country fan. I can name a lot of current country artists but I'd never heard of him. It was the scandal that informed me of his existence and his success has got even bigger since. Suddenly, it's like, he's this big deal. His album was released just under a month before the incriminating video came out. Ordinarily, that would have resulted in a massive drop in sales, it would have been the worst possible scenario for a new album's roll-out. But it remained at #1 for 10 weeks, was in the top 10 for months and to date, it's sold over 4 million SPS in the US alone. He had one top ten single before his scandal - he's gained another 3 post-scandal. It's like this scandal MADE his career. I've still never heard a single song of his. It's all very strange. It's almost industry plant stuff.
