Today marks the 6th Anniversary for K-12! The film was released alongside its accompanying soundtrack/album. Both the album and film have gone on to become a huge success. The film has amassed over 100 million views on YouTube and every track on the K-12 album has garnered 100 million streams (or more!) on Spotify alone.

Still remember driving to the city over to watch the movie in the theatre and hear the songs for the first time through the loud cinema speakers. Such a cool experience! Will always love K-12   still a very special album with fond memories in my life

I remember hearing that it'd play in a movie theatre that was relatively near me but being a bit disappointed that I couldn't go.

I was so happy to hear that she was gonna upload it on YouTube. I stayed up late and watched the premiere!

I ****in' knew it guys. She posted on her story that she's done with Portals and the trilogy and won't be finishing the music videos. She really feels like such a grifter these days. I feel so sad to say it but I think I'm officially done with her. Gonna go be depressed about it now bye

That's terribly disappointing but I'm not surprised in the least. I had a feeling that after such a long period of radio silence that we were either going to get one more music video (at most) or nothing at all. It's a shame because the music videos for Portals were very well done and I was very excited to see music videos for songs like The Contortionist.

Melanie's definitely changed over the years, I don't fault her for that. I kind of just don't recognize who she's become though? Obviously I don't know her personally and more than likely never will and I of course respect her decision to not continue to make the videos, I just wish there was more clarity offered? Over the last couple of years Melanie and her team have chosen to be very quiet and have little to no social media presence, which I can understand and totally respect, from a fan's perspective however, it is very confusing. We quickly went from having lots of interactions and posts, interviews and updates to nothing. Understandably so, but the absence in explanation or reason for many recent decisions career-wise have been a bit odd.

I dunno, I think I'm starting to ramble. I'm not as attached to her as I used to be but I will always have love for her music and art and the impact she's had on me not only as an artist but as a person.

Yeah she answered a few questions on her story the other day and it seems like she's basically closed the door on all her old work for good now. So sad. The eras that we loved so much. The art we were promised and waited so eagerly for. And she just casually decided to say "nah I don't care anymore" but dressed up with all her flouncy spiritual jargon. I was dying for a video for The Contortionist and Nymphology. Oh well. It's always just sad to feel yourself drifting from one of your favourite artists you've followed for so long. 10 years this year actually

Exactly what I would like to! All I want is for her to be more upfront and honest with us. Like it all just makes me think she doesn't care at all and we're just her vehicle for making money so she can be an artist with a big budget. Like if your fans love your work and are the ones paying you the millions of dollars, show them some respect back. Be grateful. Don't just thank the universe and call yourself an elevated being who deserves it 

Anyway. I'm in the same boat as you. We had fun along the way here in this thread! I still love her old stuff and it will always have a place in my heart

That makes sense. I was really looking forward to the rest of the music videos especially for the songs you mentioned specifically.

Um, sir, this is Melanie Martinez we're talking about.

Next year? She released an album in 2023, we'll be lucky if we see a new album by 2027, let alone new music.

She makes very good quality stuff so I'm more than here for her to take her time tbh, but nearly half a decade for each release kills me 

Also I really wish she'd release an album comprised of unreleased tracks from each era because some of her unreleased stuff is too good to remain unreleased.

Tbh I'm gonna need to download all her unreleased stuff because I don't feel any guilt listening to it anymore and some of it is honestly SO GOOD. Some of the tracks made for the original Portals album are peak. Like the original Death and Needle And Thread

I kind of feel the same way...

To be quite honest, I was listening to unreleased stuff way back in 2015/16 when we didn't have official titles for some of them like "Bandaid" / "Blue Knees". Her unreleased stuff is immaculate and I truly do think that its a shame that they more than likely will never see the light of day. Needle & Thread in particular is a gorgeous song that could've fit perfectly between Faerie Soiree and Light Shower. Although I have a working theory that it was originally competing with Light Shower for that spot because both songs begin with soft rain sounds.
