I don't think conservatives like you. Nobody likes you. Good job antagonizing everyone.

"But you need someone like me, that looks like me to say it" lmao, its such a give me a cookie behaviour

Also, it is so ignorant of people to assume that since they belong in a minority they can't do that minority wrong. Gay people have been homophobic countless times, fat people can be fatphobic, I've seen tweets where black men are saying the worst things for black women as if their not black too!

You don't need to understand something in order to respect it. How does your life get affected by a person going by they/them pronouns? Even if you think it's stupid, does your life get threatened? Does your life get more difficult? Jesus christ.

Honestly I think the pronoun thing has gotten so far out of hand as to have actually harmed the trans community. The whole ‘respect pronouns’ when people are calling themselves cats, clouds, elves etc and calling themselves trans is not doin anything ‘progressive’. Fortunately I have never met someone like this in real life, and I hope I never do.

Mr Ricky

I'm not defending anyone in this case, but the pronouns I can't get used to it. Sorry, but I hope not to offend anyone, because I really am not meaning to. But it feels like all of this pronoun thing etc just started to happen. And ofcourse people are finally able to feel what they feel, but I feel like most people are using it as an excuse to just include themselves of being it. I haven't heard ANYONE in my circle, EVER, talking about being non-binary etc until just a couple years ago.

It's confusing and it makes me mad that people before this whole thing blew up, get's no excuse because they can't get used to it.

I'm sure someone has already said this but I can't make myself go through this thread to check :ororomunroe:

BUT... Jeffree literally says this sh*t so we'll get riled up and share it, which increases his visibility online. In turn, conservatives use it as an example of the left "eating it's own", and that even FURTHER increases his visibility online.

Like I get that what he said is f*cked up and offensive, but y'all are falling for it big time and putting money in his pockets by being outraged on social media :franminervini: it's like clapping for Tinkerbell to keep her alive - if you don't give him any attention he'll just fade away.

It's really not that complicated. English has been using "they/them" to refer to singular people for decades, probably longer.

"A person posted on GGD"

"Oh? What did they post?"

Completely natural use of the they/them pronoun. It's not a stretch at all to apply that pronoun to singular people who ask for it.

Hell, English is kind of fluid with plural/singular nouns and pronouns. In the first sentence of this post, I said "singular people".

And even if none of this were true, language evolves with the times regardless.

Also, I'm not sure I understand this? It's cultural appropriation to respect the chosen pronouns of genderqueer people?

We don't consider the comfort of others when it comes to the respect people deserve. If someone using "they/them" makes a non-English speaker uncomfortable then the latter is the one with a problem and they're the one that's just gonna have to get over it.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm saying it works in English but that other languages don't have their pronouns structured like that so for them it's difficult and that doesn't mean people don't respect you, it's just strange for them because they don't quite understand the rules for it. And that's only the languages that I know about personally which are somewhat similiar to English, lord knows what languages halfway around the world with no relation to it would understand about it.

My last point was referring to the fact that the idea of cultural appropriation is a western developed country thing, mainly in America. Its been shown that in many countries in Asia for example or even the carribean that there isn't any offense taken to a foreigner enjoying their culture by trying it out. And so it's easy for these debates to exist in one space but neglect to realise that people have different views and attitudes that will need to be taken into account when discussing this. And acting like someone who think they/them pronouns are a strange phenomenon because their language doesn't have any equivalent is somehow transphobic and close minded is just silly. And you'd likely push them away from your viewpoint by suggesting they are against trans people when they clearly aren't.

so the "transgender" word is now offensive..

lady gaga is about to be cancelled.

"gay straight or bi, lesbian transgender life"

It's not about the person being transgender. It's about the use of dehumanizing language. Like, it'd be the same with people referring to black people as "the blacks", etc. It's offensive because it is dehumanizing, not because of anything else. The word transgender is not offensive, using it to refer to trans people in a dehumanizing manner is.

Then again, who am I to expect nuance from ggd

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

Guys. You need to understand that it's just his opinion. They/them/it is also stupid for me too. It wouldn't work in my country because here its offensive to call someone this way.

Terrible, terrible attitude.

I don’t understand why people can’t just let other people live and be respectful with this kind of thing.  I don’t “get it” but I don’t have to “get it” to be respectful and refer to other people how they wish to be.  It’s like such a small request, like someone not wanting their name to be abbreviated or whatever.

I’m trying to phrase my reply in a way that hopefully won’t offend people here so please forgive me if it does come across offensive because it isn’t meant to be.

There does appear to be a link between some people who are on the spectrum of autism and how they feel about their gender, especially those who prefer to not assign a gender to themselves.  I think feeling like you live outside of the norm in this way will no doubt raise a lot of questions for that person about who they are and their identity.

It isn’t a complete correlation, I’ve met people who became non-binary after they were sexually assaulted and some other people who are just your average Joe and haven’t gone through a tragic event that caused them to question their identity.

I just prefer to respect their decision and refer to them how they wish.  They could be going through something, they may not… it just doesn’t impact me personally to swap a few words out to make someone feel comfortable.

I’m sorry, call me a bitch if you must, but I am not going to respect someone’s opinion if their opinion invalidates, demeans, belittles, trivializes, or harms someone else’s life or identity. Bigotry is an opinion but it is no less bigotry.
