FfFfFfFF 58,120
Biden administration does not observe direct military threats from Russia to Romania or the Republic of Moldova. Maia Sandu condemned the transit of a Russian missile through Moldovan airspace, evoking the possibility of applying measures to strengthen the country's defense. Source - https://tv8.md/2023/11/02/sua-nu-considera-ca-exista-amenintari-la-adresa-r-moldova-sau-romaniei-din-partea-rusiei-nu-avem-niciun-indiciu/222539 This comes after a bunch of Ukrainian key figures - including Zelensky and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - claimed a Russian missile flew in Romania's airspace, which was later proven false. None of them adressed or revised their messages.
Dennis 8,391
Important context, since I find your post a bit misleading: Moldova says that a russian missile did cross their border: https://www.wsj.com/articles/moldova-says-russian-missile-entered-its-airspace-as-barrage-in-ukraine-intensifies-9923e6f9 "Moldova said a Russian missile entered its airspace en route to a target in Ukraine during the latest wave of Russian attacks, adding to the risk of the war spilling over as the Kremlin laid out its plans to mark the first anniversary of the invasion." Romania however denied it and claimed it came only 22 miles close to their border (which means even if the missile did not cross it came incredibly close to doing so): https://www.yahoo.com/news/romania-denies-reports-russian-missile-135800919.html U.S saying it does not observe a military threat to these countries likely means that these missiles were not targeting Molodvan or Romanian territory, since Ukraine says that they re-entered Ukrainian airspace and targeted Ukrainian assets. This information was first communicated by Ukrainian Chief of Staff. Moldova confirmed that it did cross their border. Romania denied it. Personally I'd like to know more about what's causing these discrepancies of observation between different countries. If some radars have a "margin of error" of localizing an object that's flying far away, it could explain why.

It's not misleading if you read carefully what I wrote in the OP. 1) Ukrainian officials were claiming a Russian missile flew over Romania, which was later proven false: Romanian authorities were aware of the missile and was detected flying 35kms from the border at its closest, but not inside Romania's airspace. Zelensky continued to spread this idea even after Romania disproved it. 2) But the missile crossed into Moldova's airspace and yes, Moldova is vulnerable to Russia, this is a different issue. I posted in the OP the reaction of Maia Sandu to the missile transiting Moldova (that is, invading Moldova's airspace).

I posted in the OP the reaction of Maia Sandu to the missile transiting Moldova (meaning, invading Moldova's airspace). When you have a story like this, present the full story, not only the part that you want to focus on. Ukraine said a missile crossed Moldovan and Romanian territory. Moldova confirmed a violation of its own air space, Romania said that it did not violate its airspace but came very close (22miles/35kilometers). Ukraine's statement is partly accurate and partly inaccurate. Instead of being cynical, and trying to insinunate that people are intentionally lying, try to be more objective and understand what's happening. If the missile was already out of Ukrainian airspace, crossed Moldovan arispace, thus getting farther away from Ukrainian radars, perhaps the margin of error was showing something different on their end, especially when we're talking about a small margin of 22 miles. We've see how even America with its advanced weapons struggled with tracking a chinese balloon. So again, I'm more interested in hearing from experts on this, rather than cynical speculation about people's motives.

The full picture is that Ukraine officials including Zelensky attempted to spread disinformation/ war propaganda. You may not like it that it become exposed they were circulating a false piece of info. But the ones observing a reality are not at fault for said reality. The experts are the Romanian military and they said it was outside Romania's airspace full stop. You can easily fall into conspiracy theory realm if you want to oppose this.
