The Michael Jackson estate is in the process of selling half of its interests in HeeHee’s music catalog in a deal in the $800 million-$900 million range.

While details are unclear, sources say that Sony and a possible financial partner are negotiating to acquire 50% of the estate’s interests in Jackson’s publishing, recorded-music revenues, the “MJ: The Musical” Broadway show and the upcoming biopic “Michael,” and possibly more assets.

The package would be the biggest deal to date in the still-booming music catalog market.

Is that just Michael's music rights or does that include the Beatles music? Didn't he buy a lot of their catalog?

no, Michael Jackson sold 50% of ATV (the company that had owned the Beatles copyrights) to Sony in 1995 and Sony bought the remaining half in 2016 for $750 million.

Reject False Icons

Damn Sony won, in their years long battle, why would the state do that it’s like selling Michaels crafts to Michael’s enemies

Sigh

I wonder how this will impact the releases in the future… and I also wonder how much the leak influenced this (or if it did at all). It sucks in principle : /

Well, I guess a silver lining would be that I definitely expect more music to be released.

The only question is, will it be handled with care? Or just remixed to hell and thrown out there for a quick buck?

Oh god. I hope they’re smart enough to at the very LEAST do what they did with Xscape’s deluxe. Otherwise we’re going to probably end up with “Michael” 2.0

Yeah, they should take notes that MJ fans want MJ's work. Or at least for his music to be reworked by people who respected his vision.

Watch them give us more Cascio tracks and the whole cycle restarts with the fans losing their minds
