There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging that your relationship failed but you can still be happy without your ex. It’s called self growth and something everyone can relate to. Sometimes you need to let go of something that’s brining you down, and the truth is the only person that knows you 100% is yourself.   It’s not like she trashed him, and she’s stated multiple times after the breakup that she still loves him. This is nothing comparable to the royal family.

I love Miley but this song while not terrible doesn't really do anything for me and is rather boring. It's no Midnight Sky and doesn't showcase or fit her powerful vocals. Also the last album was mostly about her ex  now she's doing it again  ?

Firstly, we don't even know if the rumors about her ex dedicating that Bruno Mars' song to Miley are even true, we should go from there.

Also where do you hear her 'speaking poorly' about her ex? I don't see any shade in the lyrics even if they are about him. She is saying that she can rely on herself - it is uplifting rather than taunting.

I know the song may be seen as “generic”, but I’ve really been enjoying it. 
It’s nice to see Miley’s work paying off. I feel like people know her name, but she hasn’t had the success she deserves

Miley is an aritst, That's what artist/entertainers do , they draw inspiration from real life experiences and make art for us. It ain't rocket science , if you listen to the song she's actually not saying anything bad about him , all she's saying is that she's happy without him
