They don’t? The many roads we drive on are traditional Roman roads. Empires existed and we should not feel remorse for it.

Just because Romans created roads doesn't mean the Roman government is still around. Does this mean the Aztec state is still around just because we have Aztec temples?

The people of Algeria didn't undergo ethnogenesis. Colonization there didn't create a new population like the Roman Empire produced across Europe.

And how can you learn from the past if you can't even apologize for the bad you did?

It’s meaningless. They are loads of people wanting the UK to start paying reparations to our former colonises but where does it end? Should we start sending money to the former colonises which later became the United States of America

You are not getting my point, we are a very power hungry species and throughout history if a country did not have empire, they were part of an empire and they were empires throughout the world.

If an investigation can prove and calculate all instances when UK exploited foreign lands and make a total price of that, and then resend it to said country, why not? An injustice is an injustice. But as we can see the West can't even commit to words, let alone money.. So I assure you it's not going to happen either way!

This is a completely fair point! But this still doesn't justify recent exemples of colonization or imperialism. Bad happens because we live in such world, but the bad remains bad.

I think it’s a pure injustice that Britain was colonised by the Romans and the Viking’s. I demand money to sort it out now!!

As I said, these polities no longer exist so you can't ask money from them. But the former colonial powers still exist and they are the same they were a few decades ago.

Not all countries had colonial empires. Western Europe had, but the East didn't (and to this day remains poorer than the West). Nobody was pointing a gun to France, UK's and Spain heads to start the Scramble for Africa. Colonialism is a shameful legacy the West needs to assume and pay reparations for. And the logic of "everybody was doing it so we're fine" can excuse a plethora of immoral things.

While I agree with your first statement, colonialism is not in any way shape or form unique to Western cultures… like what?! You know Japan literally still has an emperor right?

Ever heard of the Ottoman Empire? Genghis Khan? Not to mention imperial regimes in Africa, South America, etc.

Y'all speak about money.. I want acknowledgement of what happened, i want truth, i want respect for the peoples and cultures that lived there. I want them to teach history the way it happened instead of proclaiming certain "leaders" as heros and pointing out others, i want them to stop creating division or try to cover everything up by saying "orrh its not relevant we are all french now, its the past!"

Yea, I did. I was talking about Eastern Europe where the only country with a colonial empire was Russia.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing. I currently live in a colonised country (Scotland) and unfortunately the world would be different if colonisation never happened but that timeline we will never know.

White people here justifying colonisation!!

Disgusting!

And no, it's not "happened in past". It's very recent. Some of my parents generation have lived through it.

The effect of it broke our country and we still suffer its horrors. The brit colonisation affects every aspects of our life even today.

Have some shame you people and better remain silent on this if you don't have anything better to say.

Colonisation was vital back in they days. It was a dog eats dog world, if a country was not coloniser, it was colonised.

This. Colonization was inevitable and widespread. Why is no one currently pointing fingers at the Dutch or Spaniards? The Romans? The Turks? The Portuguese? There’s always a focus on the UK and US and now France as if they were the only culprits.
