The gender neutral award gets a gender debate :icega:

Why not just do 50/50? It's not that hard?

why put a quota? Does it mean every single year each gender has absolutely equal output? This is actually unfair. We should be able to think beyond genders and rate the material produced, and quotas don’t help achieving that.

as another user already pointed out, representation for the sake of representation is not good.

I think their feelings are valid, trans feelings are valid, don't you think??

but I also think that award shows need to learn a lot before creating gender nutral categories, they're not ready for that change and we can see it OG post.

It's not about the validity of feelings.

Belonging to an award gendered category shouldn't be a concern. Just be grateful you got nominated.

so female feelings aren't valid either or just trans feelings in general? just to make things clear.

I was fine with the Brit Awards gendered categories. The newly genderless category is not ok with me.

i think that the lack of female representation in that award category should not come at the expense of validating someone's feelings.

I don't like the genderless category too but sam's feelings are valid, he's not a man nor a woman so he has every right to feel uncomforable, they're not the problem. the problem are the people who are only voting for men.

the reason they put everyone in one category is that there are not enough British artists who would qualify if there was non-binary category (the rule is Top 40 album or two Top 20 singles in the eligibility period.) this year, even Sam Smith wouldn't be eligible.
