Bob Dylan criticizes musicians as lowering the standard of music

What he is saying is absolutely equal to if someone back 35,000 years ago said "Instruments are for the establishment and are needlessly complex, its not real art. You want real good music? grab that branch and hit some pebbles. Thats where the soul is. Its better than the stringy box, pipe with holes shiz"

"I hope that you will love me in this way For who I am—not then—but for today"

I don't think the technology is the culprit here, but the record companies and execs, who push mediocre talent to generate a quick revenue and no interest in investing in medium to long term artist development.

Well he's always been anti-establishment, and I wouldn't expect him to be different now

He hates celebrity and he's even done things on purpose to try and make people dislike him and not appreciate him as much

I think he's a really interesting person but tbh I've watched some of his interviews and he even says conflicting things during them so I kinda take everything he says as like, only part of what he thinks

But streaming has definitely changed a lot about the way we consume music, but it seems like he's just looking at the negative aspect. There's so much positive to it

.. anyways has he heard Bloody Mary:oprah:

Fun fact: Dolly Parton has actually covered Bob Dylan on her 2014 album “Blue Smoke” on the song “Don’t Think Twice”

It’s giving out of touch. A shame that someone so intelligent and influential can be so narrow minded about music.

He is just jealous because he didn't come up with Rain On Me.

He has been saying this same thing for decades, this is not a new stance for him. Like someone mentioned above, he is incredibly anti-celebrity and we're living in an age where celebrity is bigger than ever. This is not news or a shock. He has always been like this, and it's part of what turned him into a legend in the first place (which he has spent just as many decades trying to undo).

Imagine saying all of that pretentious bullshit and then praising Rag and Bone Man :billie:

Right? Rag and bone man is like a cliché of a soulful artist who for sure ain't "writing a classic" either.

Labels take a pretty talented white guy doing what plenty of black artists do better and overnight he becomes the most talked-about new soul music act.

I kind of agree to an extent. I do think that music is art and that everyone should be able to express themselves but a lot of the music nowadays seems like there isn't any effort. Even the current trend of "sped up" songs becoming increasingly popular makes me wonder why? Current music is created more for the charts and not even charts now but tik tok and then it's forgotten when it falls because some lack substance. I am not generalizing though because there are still lot of great artists out there.

I do respect what he’s getting at here but ultimately… if you don’t like it then don’t listen to it. And if you think you can make better music then…do it. Granted, he has. I loved his last album and love many songs he’s written. But I think more choice and variety and perspective is a good thing.

I often wonder who people will be talking about 50 years from now as a standards artist and I’m more confident every year that Gaga will be near the top of that list. She’s IT. Has been the whole time.
