Economy 52,906
https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/what-flu-strain-is-circulating-now-and-why-are-so-many-kids-getting-sick-1.6198908 This year many more young children than normal are getting severe reactions to flus something that is straining hospitals Canadian doctor spoke about the types of flu strains and which ones you tend to hold on to immunity longer Because for nearly 2 years covid protocols also suppressed other flus and viruses, many children under 5 have never been exposed to a flu at all in their lives. A lot of very young children are not getting hit with the flu all at once that don't have any previous immunity and thus it explains an unusually strong year for the flu especially among young children Immunity to some strains of the flu can give a partial immunity to other strains if it is simmilar enough... As such not getting the flu at all for years, or in the case of some very young children never, it increases the chance of a bad reaction when your exposed to any strain Many experts believe next year's flu season should be more tempered than this year's major wave

I was shook There's another meaning of hammered too. I'll use it in a sentence: Charlie Pluth liked to watch Shawn Mendes get hammered by Justin Bieber. LIKELADYAGAGA 4,080
Not sure why this isn't mentioned but a lot of the infectious disease college professors I follow on Twitter are saying that COVID suppresses the immune system for about six months after infection which makes any illness you get much worse. Parents know the flu and Covid are going around but still act like everything is fine. That attitude is what is causing kids and other people to get sick. I’ve heard the same thing. And then there’s the hundreds of thousands of people with long Covid, having symptoms for months and months, there’s even people who got Covid early on in 2020 and still have compromised immune systems right now. People are being too careless when it comes to Covid. We all should still be taking precautions, wearing masks in crowds or on transit or when we go out shopping, etc.

I've experienced the same thing. Ever since I got Covid (even though at the time I was vaccinated thrice), my immune system has been really weak and I get sick way more frequently. I got the shingles right after covid, my cold sore outbreaks have become way more frequent and I constantly have a cold. It's been a bit longer than 6 months though since I tested positive for covid, must have been 8 months now.

But I mean, this was bound to happen the moment social distancing/masks took some steps back. Flus and viruses that were supressed were gonna return with a vengeance and hit us harder since we hadn't been exposed as much... I don't think it's reasonable to keep living like that forever either and kick the can the road forever. I would imagine next year won't be as bad.
