Railing 2,799
ARTPOP, easily I think people have a bit of a recency bias with Chromatica, especially since the rollout was a disaster and everyone has their takes on "X should've been a single, why isn't she promoting Y?". The latter is true for ARTPOP as well, but a lot of current fans weren't around at that time. Ask this exact question again in 10 years, I think the odds will be stacked in ARTPOP's favor. Benji 20,113
Chromatica is my all time favourite album ever whilst ARTPOP is my least favourite Gaga album so my choice was easy I still believe Chromatica is the fully realised, fleshed out and evolved ARTPOP. I'll go with Chromatica since it's more cohesive and easily digestible. ARTPOP on the other hand has so many bops but yeah Chromatica takes this easy. Perfect sum up! Bella Goth 1,149
for me is ARTPOP. because i can see that's gaga vision of art. idk i feel blood to much influence into chromatica production and visual wise. we knew chromatica its giving video game aesthetic that we can see on grimes, hanna, blood's circle. not im saying i didnt like chromatica, but i feel chromatica is not lady gaga the way chromatica ball is back to gaga herself, her vision of "burning" the porch, different direction of the beauty of grotesque, it's all her again

Gaga especially in her earlier career had that videogame element. I am appreciative for the work and music Blood Pop and her have made together but it is a bit bland and underwhelming at times on both Joanne and Chromatica. With that said after ARTPOP, the biggest thing fans asked for was a normal pop album full of hits. Chromatica delivered exactly what fans asked from her from her next pop album. It has a lot of great pop tracks but most of them couldve been sang by anyone. Unfortunately, I really only felt Alice, Replay and 911 were tracks that had her signature on it and those were a bit tame. Meanwhile on ARTPOP, I struggle to think of any other artist that could pull off Aura, Venus, G.U.Y., ARTPOP, Donatella, Swine, Gypsy, Mary Jane Holland, Dope, and Applause. Alternatively, ARTPOP was unfocused and genre wise was all over the place. Chromatica was very consistent with the vibe, sound, and genre influences. ReplayBoss 271
Although Chromatica is more polished and cohesive and has my fav song of all time on the album, ARTPOP is such a mess that I love it. It could be nostalgia, but the bangers on that album is some of her best work ever. Gaga took a lot of risk with ARTPOP and I like that. As a whole album, Chromatica, but as a statement and songs, ARTPOP. ARTPOP was also my first Gaga era that I experienced live with everyone else so I have heavy bias for it. The scars on my mind are on replay, r-replay

And the allusions and metaphors in the lyrics make it a fun project to periodically dive into a interpret in different ways. Even the era itself was hectic and crazy in a way that only elevated how crazy the album was. It has Gaga at her most vulnerable and at her most pretentious. Her most rebellious. Just...LOUD. Sexy, in your face, depressing, manic, angry, and LOUD. And I adore that. Chromatica is neat to the point of being sterilized with flat production and straightforward lyrics that even a toddler could understand (apart from Enigma, I guess, but as much as I love it, does that song have a meaning besides "lol I'm quirky, here's some quirky lyrics"? ). There are no allusions I can think of, or metaphors, and the only word play seems to be replacing "sign" with "sine". Don't get me wrong! I love Chromatica! 10/10 and I went to TCB THREE TIMES. But ARTPOP every day, easily. It's not even a contest I agree with a lot of this, I feel like Gaga was so bare for ARTPOP. Almost like I want to wrap her up and protect her while at the same time relating and feeling her pain I think it's interesting with Chromatica some of the more interesting and complex lyrics of the album are actually so vague that it's hard to tell what is the meaning, like Can't stop staring, I'm so naked/Wrapped in shadows, my heart races/Dragon's eyes watch, goddess breathing/Give me something to believe in This is so abstract.. I do love Chromatica and I think she decided to make it more straightforward on purpose to make it more accessible, but for me I love complex poetic lyrics/metaphors etc and really wishing she'll go back to that the meow in zombieboy
