The only people who need to know are flight controllers, airports, and the government if they so choose to ask. Civilians knowing the precise location of planes begs for something bad to happen eventually. Yes, airport security is a different beast today than it was pre-9/11, but tactics are ever evolving. One day, someone will figure out how to cheat that system and when they do, having flight positions be public knowledge will become a liability. Whether or not this is rooted in some idiot billionaires many personal complexes—and it almost certainly is with this maniac—it is a good thing that this data is not going to be made available, and I hope it stops being public info across the board sooner rather than later.
