Massive overselling of tickets for the last two concerts of Bad Bunny’s World’s Hottest Tour in Mexico City this weekend led to hundred of people being denied entry to the superstar’s shows and will have million-dollar consequences for Ticketmaster Mexico, according to Mexican authorities.

The head of Mexico’s Federal Attorney’s Office for Consumers (PROFECO), Ricardo Sheffield, said that those affected must receive a 100% refund plus a 20% compensation, and that the company will also be fined.

In a statement, Ticketmaster México acknowledged on Saturday that “the access problems were the result of the presentation of an unprecedented number of counterfeit tickets, which caused an unusual crowd of people and an intermittent operation of our system” which “generated confusion and made entrance to the stadium complicated, with the unfortunate consequence that some legitimate tickets were denied entry.”

Ricardo confirmed the ticketing problem for Bad Bunny’s shows was triggered by an “oversale” of tickets. A total of 1,600 faulty tickets were reported for the first concert Dec. 9, and 110 for the second on Dec. 10.

The fine for Ticketmaster México could amount to up to 10% of that company’s total sales in 2021, the official said.

According to the Mexican official many tickets claimed as false were indeed legitimate and had been purchased through legitimate channels.

Those affected are also preparing a class action suit against the company.

Deserved, I saw what they were doing at the entrance and it was disgusting. They scanned your ticket and if it was "dupped/fake" it'd show an X so they grabbed your ticket and tore it.

Artists should stay away from this company. It's been like that for years... and idk nowadays but for the JWT they pretended the shows were sold out in a matter of minutes (you couldn't even access to the site) and redirected most of the tickets to Ticketmaster Platinum, where they charge you twice their price.

This Taylor Swift fiasco happens and now suddenly everyone is all “I hate ticketmaster” :laughga: lol. Ticketmaster can’t be sued for people buying counterfeit tickets to the show. Third party ticket sellers should be responsible for allowing scalpers to sell fake tickets on their sites for extremely high prices :yennefer:

That's not true lol, at least in México, Ticketmaster has been pulling this stuff for yeeeears, specially for festivals, people has been vocal about it, but this year it got specially worse.

The problem here is that even tickets that were sold on the Ticketmaster site were being labed as fake or duped. People showed up on the venue with their digital tickets only to find that someone had already used them. And this is not the first time, a few weeks ago the same thing happenned on another concert, but not to this level. Bad Bunny's show was sold out but the place was half empty because somehow, all of the people outside had fake tickets, like how does that even happen?

But yes, resellers are also a big problem. Earlier this year there was a viral case of a girl that was selling tickets for the biggest music festival in México for like 5 times the original price. She was stupid enough to flaunt it on her socials, people caught up on the bs and called her out, which led to expose a network a Ticketmaster holding special sales and giving tickets to reselling bussiness. Ticketmaster has been doing very shady stuff for decades now, let's not forget Pearl Jam tried to stop them in the 90s, so this is not something new.
