Shakira's presence in the World Cup in Qatar was criticized in social networks, due to the controversy surrounding The FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The criticism that has been directed at the World Cup in Qatar has resulted in some artists rejecting the chance to be at the opening ceremony. That's the case with Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart, who have turned down the opportunity.

According to 'El programa de Ana Rosa', Shakira will not perform at the ceremony, changing her decision a few days before the start of the World Cup.

"They have confirmed to me that Shakira will not perform at the opening ceremony, but they do not confirm to me is that she will have any role throughout the World Cup," said Adriana Dorronsoro, a journalist on the Spanish Telecinco program.

Hoping this turns out to be true. With people staying in Dubai and flying out to Qatar only for the matches and Qatar having to hire Pakistani workers as “fans” of the competing countries, I’m all in for Qatar to be humiliated :vegas:

This vile regime is built up by literally enslaving Asian workers who migrated there in the hopes of sustaining their families, they sponsor terrorism and are inhumane towards any person that is not in line with their way of life based on Sharia-law. Every artist connected to this huge PR stunt needs to be called out.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

hopefully everyone realizes that this isn't just a qatar thing but the majority of the gulf countries exploiting everyone workers under the promise of a better life and ability to provide to their families. modern slavery, racism, and abuse towards clueless expats (particularly from third world asian countries) is abundant here & i've witnessed it living here my whole life. it is so normalized.

the people who have it the worst are the construction workers forced to work in 60+ degrees celsius outside (although it's illegal they're still forced to work, and are the one who get in trouble when caught instead of their bosses), and maids who have their legal documents taken away from them and are practically trapped inside their sponsors homes, not allowed to leave, in extreme cases with no phones or contact to the outside world enduring constant abuse. we have our own equivalent of craiglist except that you literally see people selling maids the same way people sell pets, bragging about how they'll be loyal to you and you're allowed to beat them etc etc. textbook slave trade. there was a bbc documentary about it.

I'm seriously asking: did she confirm she was going to perform in the first place? Cause I haven't heard besides rumours

It's pretty weird coming from her, specially a woman that fought for so many development in Latin American countries. I want to believe she wouldn't put her reputation at risk for some more coins.
