They try to get #1 on the Hot 100. Billboard limited digital sales to 1 purchase of any UPC/ISRC per customer. those with alternate cover arts have different UPC/ISRC. so now 1 customer can buy 6 versions on her website and all will be counted by Billboard.

Oh wow alternate covers count separately? That's a bit stupid. Basically renders the 1 per customer rule useless. It's literally the same song.
