Gagas Comeback Was the Biggest of the Millenium

It was warranted after extreme controversy with Madonna’s Erotica, or the critically panned Glitter by Mariah Carey.

In the age of the short attention span, the term comeback is a little less easy to define.  A “hiatus” from BLACKPINK, and their return is dubbed a comeback. What once was saved for a warranted return to grace of a a previous blunder is given to every artist.

Whichever category you put Lady Gaga in, she’s either had several comebacks, or one defining one.

Once untouchable, so far up in the upper echelon of galactic superstardom during Born This Way, Gagas trajectory had a gravity pulling moment that brought her back down to earth with ARTPOP. Though Gagas low are some artists highs, she was at her lowest personally and publicly. After ARTPOP, it took YEARS of grit and determination for her to get to where she is, along the way she’s had career defining moments.

If Gaga didn’t course correct, and continued down the same path, there is no way she would survive. Instead she focused on the progress and the small steps. Cheek to Cheek, A Sound of Music, American Horror Story, The National Anthem at the Super Bowl. These diversified projects gave her the opportunity to go on to do The Super Bowl, Coachella, A Star Is Born, and put her back in a bracket of ticket sales she was once in with TCB.

The First 6 years of Gagas career she climbed so high, that her fall seemed devastating. 5 years later she was undeniably back on top with A Star is Born, something that would seem like a made up story if it was told in 2013.

i honestly didn’t care much for the movie itself. but it really is one of her best albums and moments in general. i would die for a another Gaga album full of songs like ARUTW and Look What I Found

What :samanthac:

The process from Rainbow to The Emancipation of Mimi is the first example of a comeback that I can think of :samanthac:

OT: If we are to take the public perspective into question… maybe. Gaga really went from ookie spookie kookie girl to acclaimed legend in 5 years. From a commercial point I think there are still heights we’re yet to experience.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

teom was her comeback era. glitter and charmbracelet were her “flop” eras and she was deemed over and something that came and went in the 90s — enter “we belong together” which went number 1 for 14 weeks and “shake it off” which would have been her 17th number 1 except wbt ended up blocking it because of its own massive success

Yes, with the Emancipation of Mimi, which sold over 10 million copies worldwide and produced the hit singles It’s Like That, Shake It Off, Don’t Forget About Us and the Grammy winning We Belong Together.

When we're not together tell me everything's gonna be alright

Ookie spookie kookie girl is the best description of Gaga from like 2009-2013. No analysis, this is it!

The only thing I would add is that from 2009-2013 is a WTF.  There were no taking your eyes off of what was happening. I remember being at a party when (music videos were still a thing) Born This away video debuted everyone watched. She was a showstopper.

Once the general public had had enough, there wasn’t a reason for Gaga.

From an acclaimed standpoint, I think Gaga is JUST getting started. It gives me shivers where she will go with film, television and music.

Glitter was a product of its time and Mariah Carey’s image. She played it safe all throughout the 90s, coupled with waning interest and release around 9/11, it was a disaster.

I would put Glitter to The Emancipation of Mimi as the biggest comeback, but Gaga going from ARTPOP to A Star Is Born is undeniable.

ASIB sold 10M copies in just 3 years. It doesn’t get any better than that in the streaming era. Not to mention Shallow is already her second biggest hit.

ASIB is one of the greatest eras of the last decade but I’m talking about a grammy’s sweep (AOTY inc), 350M$ tour, multiple number one’s etc :firega:

Not that I’m expecting/demanding those kind of things because they don’t really matter and extremely rare in the streaming era as you said - I just know she’s capable of doing such things and it only comes down to planning.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

yeah, Glitter was considered one of the biggest flops and one of the worst movies until Mariah's BFF, Jennifer Lopez, released Gigli a few years later and it was an even bigger failure and released some of the pressure

This millennium! Though this Is a solid list.

Mariah going from Glitter to her own emancipation makes total sense, but Shallow is Diamond and the most awarded song ever, Gaga got nominated for best actress.

I need help understanding Justin’s comeback compared to Gaga.
