I'm surprised the capitalism didn't jump out and they didn't just use all 4 and put out 4 CDs so you can collect them. Blue is the obvious choice.

That's how it was for literally decades. Vinyl and CD singles only had one song, maybe one or two remixes of the main song if they were generous. That was the point of having a single. They're collectors items now since they aren't available in stores and usually are only available for a limited amount of time.

The idea for singles is only one song. It is initially made for people who doesn't have much money to buy an album, (it was expensive), but enjoy this one song they heard on radios so much they wanna play it again and again in the comfort of their room/home. This type was cheaper to purchase, not more than $5 back then.

 

Sometimes, the artists would also put one or two b-sides songs in it, that have the spirit of the album but don't really fit in it. And some remixes too.  This type of singles would xost more as result, but still not as expensive as an album does.

 

Then there are two songs that are both made as singles and put into one CD, vinyl, or casette. And would be called double A side.

 

Back then it was common, but today it is only serves as collector's items, since people able to listen to any songs, albums or otherwise, in streaming apps easily, for free or with monthly payments.
