I’m pretty sure she was being sarcastic and joking about that.

And as for the protocols. It’s like that for royal family and it’s been like that for years. They are there just for show nowadays. Their weddings, funerals, etc were always huge spectacles. People loved the queen and I’m pretty sure she was big part of their lives for whatever reason.

A president serving a max of 8 years is a bit different to a Queen serving 70 YEARS. 

I'm not a royalist at all but I can understand it's a big thing to some people tbh

She probably also stood in a queue for 10+ hours and hadn't have any food, so no wonder this interesting choice of words I don't think it was meant to be serious.
