I got dragged hard but it's the way it is. I like it but i was really disappointed because it didn't feel like an evolution of her music, which is what we usually get with each new album I consider it an evolution because it's more cohesive than her previous albums and has more mature comcepts except stupid love and sour candy 1

I still remember her tweeting that this was her "true story" and I can absolutely see what she means. From beginning to end, the album is pretty consistent in its depiction of her mental struggles. 1
Edonis 28,594
To be frank, Chromatica succeeded in being her most honest record to date, while still playing on the pseudo-happy nostalgia that she probably holds onto. It's why I love it so much lol

I think it’s just a different focus since it’s more about mental health, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s “heavier” though. For example BTW explores heavy topics surrounding insecurity and overcoming social stigmas, such as MTN, Born This Way, Hair, Bad Kids, The Queen… not to mention songs like Americano and Schieße which are also social commentary exploring treatment of immigrants and LGBT as well as women, respectively.

I agree to an extent - BTW definitely has it's own fair share of tracks dealing with emotional depth (really, most of her albums do), but like Joanne, it's written for other people, which kind of sounds like it's a bad thing, but I don't mean it in a negative way. Yes Gaga is the descendant of immigrants, yes she is LGBT, yes she is woman, but the lyrics on that record are largely inspired by experiences from her fans and people she connected with. In many ways, Joanne is the same way; the album is written obviously from Gaga's perspective but it was for her dad and trying to get closer with him. Chromatica isn't. Fans can talk about how the take on dance-pop on that album was meant to be a bone thrown at those that wanted dance music after all those years, but the lyrics are her most vulnerable, where she's at her most honest and exhausted. I think her writing for herself is a sign of musical growth. She doesn't have to have to speak through someone or something else in order to talk about her deteriorating mental health, alcoholism, rape, suicidal idealization, etc. if that makes sense. I feel like this is kind of off-topic though lol
