qoqo 3,224
i know the title is a little clickbait-y but this is a genuine question OBVIOUSLY not a hate thread, bad romance is obviously one of the greatest pop songs of all time and the video is nice and fits the song, but i never really understood all the praise and how its perceived as one of the best music videos of all time, like, it's not even in gaga's top 10... i appreciate its clean aesthetic and of course the choreo is iconic but other than that its pretty lackluster? the big eyes in the tub look kinda tacky, im not a fan of the wigs, the product placement throughout bugs me and probably my most unpopular opinion - the outfits arent that great i mean paparazzi, telephone and marry the night serve plot, alejandro, born this way and applause serve artistic visuals, judas, you and i and rain on me serve looks... besides a pop icon at her first commercial peak, objectively judging the bad romance video - whats so good about it? Genuine question: are you a new fan? Because seeing the Bad Romance video when it first came out was literally jaw dropping. That being said; the choreo is iconic, the visual of her setting her captor on fire is iconic, the McQueen looks are incredible, the juxtaposition of her dark fashion against the pure white background is iconic, and the final shot is also iconic. PartySick 146,608
I like the Thriller moves She definitely has better videos though but I always prefer more personal things. That's why Marry the Night remains top tier for me.

Because seeing the Bad Romance video when it first came out was literally jaw dropping. I’m a fan since 2008 and it indeed was jaw dropping, but revisiting it 13 years later I feel like Gaga has outdone herself since in every way with her videos. Bad Romance enjoys the initial wow factor because it’s from early in her career but my argument is that beside helping Gaga propel into super stardom back in the day, its not her best video in any other parameter
Space Cowboy 11,670
It’s very Kubrick and futuristic yet a bit simplistic in that it was only shot in one location. Ground-breaking.
Meat 18,962
It came out in 2009 but it still feels more futuristic than literally everything that’s being released right now. That should answer your question.
nATAH 43,221
they achieved so much with so little it was all filmed in one room, iirc and everything is so clean and white and blank with the full attention being on her there's also a tonne of symbolism to analyse (like why are the 2 animal heads left unburnt at the end?) and the CGI is top notch, you can't even tell the white latex suit has eyeholes in it mother, what must i do? I feel like it was super elevated compared to other music videos at the time for both her and her contemporaries. Some of the high points were her crying, her being sold, her spinning in the crystals, and her then murdering her buyer. At the time, she had dabbled in fashion. She had dabbled in the freaky w/ her Paparazzi performance. But this truly elevated the "Gaga Style." It was a change in direction for her. She went from Shoulder Pads to Alexander McQueen. Telephone, Marry the Night, Alejandro, Born This Way, Judas, and Rain on Me didn't exist yet. But it was truly Bad Romance that moved her into a direction that allowed for the rest of these to exist. gemein3 1,053
I remember being a junior in HS and seeing this for the first time. I would rush home and watch it over and over texting my best friends about it. Rah rah was stuck in everyone’s head for weeks. It was the right thing and the right moment. It was a feast for the eyes.

qoqo 3,224
Guys I obviously recognize the cultural impact it has and how innovative it was in 2009 but it’s not what this thread is about, I’m trying to measure it objectively as a video compared to her other ones
