I don't think he is the king of pop whatsoever, but the MJ hysteria is funny to me sometimes when it comes to titles (that were bestowed to him by the MEDIA even if his nephew seems to think opposite)

Like in a 100 years if the world is still turning and we have music/pop culture are we still going to be clinging on stars from the late 20th century?

The goes for Madonna and queen of pop.

Because not only is this a community he repeatedly distances himself from when it suits him but also what he stated was factually incorrect.  We’re lucky to get any representation on the screen, so to dismiss recent efforts to not be “tender” enough is just stupid.

What I want from him is to stop coming out with cis, hetero washed ideas of what gay men should be when he himself doesn’t claim to be one.

If we're lucky to get any representation on the screen, why is this suddenly such an issue when Harry Styles is involved? Such reactions are the reasons why less and less people are willing to talk publicly about sexuality or gender: let's educate the people who are willing to learn instead of crucifying them on social media.

He might not be saying what you want to hear, but he's coming from a good and genuine place, using his status to help normalize queer representation in the mainstream, and I wholeheartedly thank and respect him for that. He certainly inspired me to go a little bolder in my life, and I can't even begin to imagine the impact this is having on younger LGBTQ people still in the closet.

Good for you if you are able to label yourself, but some people are still figuring themselves out. Or maybe they don't want to, and that's fine. It's his ****ing journey, let the man be.

Unless the entertainment industry is entirely different in 100 then yes, we will still be clinging to the pioneers like MJ and Madonna :gayhat:

Please don't!!!

I like MJ and Madonna and almost all of those artists from that era. They are literal titans/Gods to pop culture and have had an undeniable impact. I just think titles like king and queen are odd, especially if they're supposed to die with the person. Its semantics but kings and queens are supposed to be "new" constantly, because its who is ruling right now. MJ has had impact and influence, and he always will, but he is not ruling pop music as we speak.

Because he literally doesn’t claim to be representing us but has a lot to say on the matter, including beating down some great work by actual gay artists?

He could literally veto all questions about his sexuality in these interviews but nope, he’s got to come out with some squeaky clean bullsh*t about not needing to label yourself or how gay sex should be on screen.  When gay rights are under constant threat, it’s important to stand up and be proud… not shrug your shoulders, sanitise yourself and put down other gay creators.  We’re free to critique him whilst he continues to make this his main talking point.

I like pioneers better. I would even go as far to say Gods of Pop. Thats kind of all knowing and everlasting.

Believe me, if there's something I'm not proud of, it's these reactions ;)

He has had like 3 hits, if we're being generous.

And selling out 15 Madison Square Garden shows in a row as we speak, tell me who else is doing that?

Omg not this.

Michael was a hee-heelionaire at the age of 2 weeks and had already sold 1 trillion records before he was born. Nobody will ever compare to King Daddy Mike.

Michael Jackson earned the King of Pop title not just because he was successful but because he changed culture. Harry is one of the most successful male artists right now but he is not changing culture. At best he has hopped on the gender-bending trend, but does not embody it. There is a clear pre-and post-MJ shift in culture. That does not exist for Harry, nor does it exist for most stars of this century.
