I think there's some luck (and lack of) involved. Ultimately how much competition you have in ur category and the years you release stuff will matter.

 

Many ppl that don't win maybe would have if they released at a different time it just depends

 

I think that's part of the reason why nominations should also be factored in when looking at an artist's critical accomplishments. They also speak to someone's quality and impact
