Taylor Swift’s filmmaking debut All Too Well: The Short Film — which the pop star has described as “a film about an effervescent, curious young woman who ends up completely out of her depth” — received an Oscar-qualifying run, making it eligible for the best live action short Oscar, and is working with a top consulting firm to guide its awards campaign.
Swift, who has never been Oscar-nominated, but is also generating buzz this year for her original song “Carolina” featured in Where the Crawdads Sing, injected some new mojo behind All Too Well: The Short Film during the Tribeca Film Festival over the summer.

Swift is not the only music star with a film that will be in the running for the best live action short Oscar. Kendrick Lamar’s We Cry Together, a six-minute film starring himself and Zola’s Taylour Paige as a quarreling couple, which Lamar made to supplement his song of the same name that was featured on the album he released in May, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, quietly played at the Laemmle Royal Theater in West L.A. from June 3 through June 9, qualifying it for the race.

What in the trenches is this :excuseu:

Why are music videos now being considered for an Oscar? Ain't that literally what the VMAs are for? :awkney:

What is All Too Well: Short Film? Never heard of it but then again I don't really care about Taylor either.

A music video under the pretenses of a short film like many artists have done before, released in 2021, and qualifies for a 2023 Oscar... two times AOTY for the same album... It's like the industry bends itself and goes above and beyond to reward her. Or am I not seeing something that Taylor and her team only see?

and this screams desperation tbh. I like her music but damn, this all seems too bizarre

Next step is considering TikTok videos for an Oscar. Anything for the ratings. At least they could have picked a good video.

Why are people surprised about this coming from someone who built a career from framing narratives? :billie:

Is there a category for Best High School Self-indulgence Film?

I couldn’t believe when people acted like the video was a cinematic masterpiece… it’s so unsubtle and the ending with Taylor grown up and the man watching is just lame 💀

Yeah it looks like MANY short movies but since it's a taytay one it will get noms better projects can't dream of having.

Cause back then the ratings were good and they weren't trying everything to get massive fan bases to care for the Oscars.

Videos will push short films away now and too bad cause it was often how the great directors of tomorrow were getting a foot in the industry door.

People need to stop being so pressed. Obviously its no masterpiece. The whole point here is it qualities for being a short film. It's under 40 minutes, was released with the eligibility window and was screened at a festival. It means it can be considered for a nomination, doesn't mean it's going to be nominated or god forbid win.
