Demi Lovato seemingly threw shade on her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Vaderrama in new breakup song titled "29" over their 12-year age gap relationship. The former flames dated after the Disney alum turned 18 in 2010 and Wilmer Vaderrama was 29.

"Petal on the vine, too young to drink wine
Just 5 years of bleeders, student and a teacher
Far from innocent, what the f**k's consent?
Numbers told you not to, but that didn't stop you

Finally 29
Funny, just like you were you at the time
Thought it was a teenage dream, just a fantasy
But was it yours or was it mine?
17, 29"

In her 2017 documentary, Simply Complicated, Demi recollected the first meeting she had with the actor, saying, “[When] I laid eyes on him for the first time, I was in hair and makeup and he came in and sat down and I was like 'I love this man' and 'I have to have him.’”
“But I was only 17, so he was like, 'Get away from me,’” she said while adding that once she turned 18, the duo started dating.
“I think it was love at first sight, and I don't really believe in that, but I believe that it happened,” Lovato confessed.

So what is the truth :oprah:

It's not very subtle to call him a pedophile in a song after saying that he rejected her precisely because he wasn't interested in dating someone so young. Maybe she's seeing it different now but that's a pretty bold statement to make.

The more I think about this, the more I’m realizing these are serious allegations and extremely damaging to whoever she’s singing about. She’s basically calling him a predator and potentially even a pedophile. I don’t understand why she wouldn’t approach this in an interview or statement instead of “shady” lyrics. It’s so weird to me.

The fact y’all are here dragging this woman because she sings about her life and her experiences is beyond me. Did you ask yourself what if she realised recently she was a victim? It happens many times that people are blinded by love and realise 10 years later that they’ve actually been abused. Even if she was 18 it is EXTREMELY weird that a 29 years old man would want to be with someone 11 years younger than him. If this was ANYONE else y’all would be saying how brave they are but because it’s Demi y’all are here questioning her. And don’t get me started on “she could have said it in interview, not a song” comment.. People express themselves however they feel most comfortable with. If this is her way then let her be. We stan a woman who most of the time expressed her darkest thoughts in her songs so is that any less genuine than what she said in interviews?

I prefer seeing this as her realizing that she wouldn't be with someone so young now that she's 29. When she was younger she didn't see it as something bad, but when you grow up sometimes yo see that things you thought were okay actually were not okay. However, the lyrics seem to imply something darker, so I'm intrigued what she means.
