Shakira is now a step closer to going to trial for tax fraud

 Colombian superstar Shakira rejected a plea deal on Spanish tax fraud charges and is now a step closer to going to trial, her lawyers said Wednesday.

Prosecutors accuse the 45-year-old "Hips don't Lie" songstress of defrauding the Spanish tax office out of 14.5 million euros ($14.7 million) on income earned between 2012 and 2014.

They say she moved to Spain in 2011 when her relationship with FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique became public but maintained official tax residency in the Bahamas until 2015.

Her lawyers said Wednesday that the possibility to reach an agreement remained until a trial opens in a Barcelona court.

Shakira is "absolutely certain of her innocence" and "doesn't accept this deal" with the prosecutor and has decided to let the case go to court.

They added Shakira was "confident" her innocence would be proven in court.

The court still has to formally send her to stand trial and set a date.

I dont think this is a Shakira issue. This is either her accountant or a false claim. Rich people don't handle their own money, they just throw credit cards around.

she paid it but still says she is innocent. she lies she was living in Bahamas while she was barely leaving Spain and wasn't in Bahamas at all. she has to face other consequences than just paying back these money otherwise other rich people would try to do the same and only pay their taxes when they get caught.

Same case. She's actually paid the tax (and maybe even a fine?) but is contesting so she doesn't have to say she's guilty of tax evasion. IMO she should be in prison and not in a "She Wolf" kind of way

i think she still had to sign these tax documents. and everyone, even she knows Bahamas is a tax haven. she built a home, gave birth to her both sons in Spain but still used Bahams as her official residency.
and now she doesn't claim it was an accountant mistake but says that she lived in Bahamas while it was proved she didn't spend even one day in Bahamas in these years.
