Honestly I don’t think they planned this song to be a hit, Ryan explained in an interview how nowadays TikTok, attachment to viral movie/tv scenes, etc. are the biggest deciding factor in what becomes a hit. And no matter how much promo an artist does, a lot of times it still ends up being out of the artist’s/label’s hands if something becomes a smash or not. Correct me if I’m wrong but the label didn’t put much into this song at all, they didn’t expect it to blow up, but it’s attached to an iconic scene in one of the biggest movies of all time so it gradually gained popularity that way.

But there’s a reason why this song went viral. It’s because it’s a summery tune and insanely catchy because of the whistle sample. People don’t listen to ballads during summer and there’s real evidence behind it. ARUTW, Shallow and MR always get less streams during summer months.

well look what happened with "running up that hill" it took decades and now is one of the most popular songs in the world

i think the initial popularity doesn't predict the long term impact

but who knows, again, not every song of hers have to be a shallow either, is not realistic.

There's always exceptions hence why I said "usually"

Longevity is important but usually to have longevity ur hit has to be at least a relatively well known moderate hit that was liked and got attention

HMH barely qualifies as a moderate hit

Also another factor to consider is that attention spans are now shorter than ever before. Ppl move on and forget fast. If a song doesn't have innitial impact I feel the chances it will later are even less probable than it was in the past

it doesn't help that is summer either, the worst time of the year to release a ballad, hence why IAW is lowkey climbing.

ARUTW was performing even worse than HMH when it was released and look at it now. It’s one of Gaga’s biggest hits. It’s even bigger than Applause, ROM and a Million Reasons.

The song is a lot of fun, really catchy, and soundtracks one of the film’s standout scenes. It makes sense why it’s outperforming HMH. Good for them tbh!

i think the film version a bit underwhelming, not as powerful as the one gaga released...

they should've use the one we had, i think it will leave more impression...

I shine more in the dark.

I LOVE 1R. Saw them live twice so far with the last time in march this year!

But this is literally not their best work at all. Run, West Coast and Sunshine >>>> I ain't Worried.

It wasn't released in the US. World wide, ARUTW is obviously bigger than ROM

I don't think its the same situation at all tho

Shallow was the first single and got most of the attention innitially. Also correct me if I'm wrong but was it not released as a 2nd single in some of Europe?

HMH on the other hand has as much exposure and attention as we can expect it to get. So I'm not sure why there's any reason to believe it will catch on later

While I'm not saying it's totally impossible as we've been surprised before. I do find it highly unlikely

Its funny how the catchy part is the whistle when thats a sample, so they werent even original with the summer tune.

Still, its a cute bop

I just hear it and think “I’m a sucker for you [whistles]”

ARUTW did what is did without being a single in most of the world or anywhere in NA. I don’t even remember it being featured in any of the trailers. It’s just that good of a song that it reached the audience it did and it’s a shame Interscope didn’t take it further.

An organic WW smash nonetheless:firega:

“I Ain’t Worried” samples Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks", which makes it ineligible to be nominated for an Oscar :)
