Do Gaga fans idolise her past tours out of nostalgia?

The BTWB will always have my heart because it showed how deep her love for us really ran. She was in terrible mind numbing pain from her hip. If you watch some of the old footage you can see how stiff she was because she was hurting so much. She couldve said "hey guys i love  you but my hip is killing me and im gonna have to cancel the show tonight." Instead she pushed herself until her hip finally said "no more". That scream during Scheibe when her hip finally broke still haunts me. She had tears because the pain was unbearable and yet she still got up and finished. All because she loved us that god damn much. If that isnt love, then idk what is

I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

BTWB can’t be topped I fear… everything was perfect, her energy was unmatched, the stage was unparalleled, costumes to die for, impeccable setlist, her interaction with fans…. Seems like a dream.

I love all of her past tours, but it is purely nostalgia. I rewatched The Born This Way Ball recently and while there are elements that would be cool to see again, I think modern day Gaga doing it would be kinda cringe. Especially now that she's being taken more seriously as an actress.

Its simple.

They are nostalgic about her popularity at those times, not necessarily the tours.

Personally I think TFB and TMB1.0 were peak... because she was fresh and unusual.

Tmb2.0 & BTWB were clearly her peak popularity, but there's nothing particularly special about them. A castle does not maketh a tour.

Artrave was fun, it was good but she was not herself during it.

JWT was a standard adults pop performance. There was little of note. Staging? Cool. The rest? Standard, but her best vocal.

I havent seen much of enigma because it didn't look, from the bits I've seen, to be my vibe.

This tour has all her best elements. Great visuals, vocals etc, but the stage isn't huge and she isn't dominating the globe. Boo hoo.

The kids are glory supporters and we already knew.

Have you been to any of them in person?

I wonder because my view is so different and I've seen her live so many times. The energy in the crowd is so explosive and exciting. The MB countdown really worked up the crowd, unlike the one at Joanne for example.

The fact she had Semi Precious Weapons open for her, or The Darkness also impacted the mood in the arena cause it would disturb and annoy people. Same with Lady Starlight, she even made a whole opening act based on being boring af, which Gaga allowed. It was really an experience.

She may have had hit after hit back in the day, at the same time she was consifered to be weird/ugly/strange, almost unhuman. It was not cool to like Gaga. We were a bunch of weirdos on that arena floor and she connected with us. That was the Monster Ball. Don't even get me started on Artrave. She didn't even sell out many shows, people didn't care about her anymore. But the fans were there and we had a blast partying with her because of the unusual set-up she created for her fans so they could al be close to her and dance with her.

The Born this way Ball was catered to her fans almost exclusively, and I remember non fans being annoyed by her talking so much during her show. She was sharing some deep, dark stuff with her fans, but the most of the audience obviously had no clue and just wants to be entertained, rightfully so.

I tend to focus on the connection she has with her audience, the feelings she evokes because to me that is one of her strongest assets as a performer.

Sure she is no longer underweight, overworked, sings better, less emotional on stage, growing up, but that doesn't mean there was not something genuinely special and unique about her earlier tours.

Edit: Wanted to add that I've never heard so many people sing along to her song, Shallow in this case, ever. Sunday it really felt like the GP has finally embraced her and she is in fact at peak popularity in a way now.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

For me it’s hard to top the monster ball because it was the first time I saw her live and she was SOOOOOOO GOOD that I’ll always associate that feeling I had seeing her with that tour.

But I don’t dislike any of her tours. I mean they’re all part of her. The most fun I ever had on a tour was the artRAVE though. Those lucite runways turned the GA into a party and there were no bad spots.

This probably as something to due with it, but I for me I never watched a Gaga show or listened to one of her albums until 2020, so I don't think nostalgia has to do with my rankings (which I will share). I do think the more time goes by the more I enjoyed certain shows. I think this one will get better as time gets on.

My Rankings:

1. Born This Way Ball

2. The Monster Ball (2.0)

3. The Chromatica Ball

4. artRAVE: the ARTPOP Ball

5. Joanne World Tour

6. The Monster Ball (1.0)

7. The Fame Ball

the artRAVE and JWT are kinda tied for me. I like the shows both really well however I like the shows for different reasons. the artRAVE was a rave and a fun dance show while the JWT was a nice little laid-back Gaga show.

I still wonder how everything would have turned out if she said I am postponing the North America leg and moved it to like April - June how her hip and how ARTPOP would have turned out. Just one of those what if questions that could of had a hugely different outcome.

I saw TFB,BTWB, Artrave, Monster Hall in Sydney & Children in need. So I have seen her at her own shows and at a one-off performance as part of a line up.

I think you've misunderstood my point. No one tour is greater than the next, essentially (except JWT) and the prominence people put on the castle is due to her being a huge pop juggernaut at the time.

I think the plan was to have her tour Europe again after NA. Troy really wanted to work her to death & get that top touring gross. It was quite clear at the time in the way they were handling promo etc. And how TMB had been pushed and pushed.

Sad because the Queen with the Mace piano was a serve, as was studio Hair.

I hope future tours are more catered towards her health. Give her a few days between cities, give her a week and a month off regularly.

Not surprised with how they pushed the Monster Ball having 3 Europe and North American legs (only 2 NA if only counting 2.0).

ive always wondered the same thing. Not trying to be morbid but i was so nervous when she was performing Scheibe during Enigma. Speaking of ARTPOP, im still mad "I wanna be with you" got changed to " Dope"

I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

I think the JWT is her best to date, but y'all ain't ready for that discussion 👀

Honestly, I agree (although TCB might change my opinion of that since I’ve watched vids of JWT for the past four years and TCB for 2 days).

i think she is definitely a better singer now. i think her dancing overall has declined with her health issues, but it’s still really good. i think overall now she has an old rock star legend energy that she didn’t have back then. she feels more iconic onstage but also more separated/untouchable from the crowd.

i think people idolize the monster ball and born this way ball because overall they were just so bananas creatively and she had a certain energy at that point of her career as she was rising that just can never be matched. her passion isn’t 100% with pop music now. she’s a legend, not the rebellious new kid. she also felt more like “one of us” then rather than a millionaire oscar winner who has lived in a mansion for a decade

I think shes dancing like never before eight now. Never seen a show of hers where she dances as much and as good as in the chromatica ball

I See You
