Do Gaga fans idolise her past tours out of nostalgia?

Firstly, I want to say, I have been a GIANT Gaga fan since The Fame and lived through her biggest eras while I was coming of age. Her past music, videos, performances still rank in my top performances of hers and of all time so this isn't a "Gaga's past work sucks!!" kind of thread! Gaga was groundbreaking and her past work is incredible and classic.

It's just that, after watching 10000 videos of The Chromatica Ball, I went on a nostalgic blast in the past and having been watching past performances and tours.

While the old performances still 100% hold up - there is no doubt in my mind that Gaga has improved immensely since her debut. Her Vocals and dancing >>>>
Plus the budget and production value of her tours have also (obviously) blown up.

I feel like these days Gaga would get dragged by this fanbase for her fashion, choreo, vocals and/or production value if she served us:

Instead of:

Obviously she has more of a catalogue to draw from now, but to me this proves my point even more, I would 100% prefer to see Gaga live now than 12 years ago.

Her catalogue, her vocals, her fashion, her choreography, her stage production >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I LOVE THE MONSTER BALL. I actually also have so much nostalgia for The Born This Way Ball, being blessed to see it live on my 18th Birthday. I think both tours are among the best live tours EVER and that's also after diving into classic rock tours, rap tours and other pop tours.

It's just so amazing to see such an insanely talented, versatile artist and performer be able to draw from so many of her strengths and see her growth as a performer after 10 + years of experience performing at the highest level to the highest standard.

I completely understand the nostalgia, because I feel it too! She has been such a huge part of my life and so have her music, videos, fashion, performances. I still watch niche radio performances on Youtube from 2008/2009. She has been the majority of musical/entertainment content I have consumed for such a large (and formative) part of my life. It's just that I also think, sometimes the nostalgia can blind people from how INCREDIBLE and elevated her skills as a performer are NOW.

When I actually go back and watch these past tours, they are undeniably great, I also just happen to think that Gaga has worked so hard with choreographers and vocal coaches and gained so much experience that the Gaga now is in a league of her own.

I guess my real question is:

Will Gaga ever be able to top TMBT and TBTWT for her longtime stans? If not, how much do you think the nostalgia of her imperial phase plays a part in that?

For me, The Monster Ball can't be topped, maybe if I was like a fan in recent years- then might happened.

I agree , she improved so much for the dancing, vocals, budget etc. We're probably witnessing peak Gaga imo.

if she had an open stage instead of the box this could easily be her best tour ever

but lowkey reminds me of when a mpg is touring in USA arenas and suddenly a latinamerica stadium dates pops up and they try to make the stage look bigger by shoving it in a box and adding two big screens on the sides.

they need to open it!

The only department she improved in for me, is the vocals. I just adoree her vocals now :vegas:

However when it comes to dancing, I personally feel she declined a bit there. Like you cannot tell me her performing Judas at x factor France, her choreographies from BTW era, etc, can be topped. She's still a decent dancer, but declined over the years, which is reasonable with her fibro

Also her creative drive, and passion for pop music has declined as well. I don't mean to compare, but Madonna has been reinventing her pop music, remixing her pop songs for the tours etc etc, while Gaga literally didn't seem to care for her sixth studio album, and took a minimalistic approach

But anyhow, chromatica ball is SUCH a refreshment, and something i've been wanting to see from Gaga in a WHILE. Hope this somehow sparks up her passion for pop music and performing again, she's a beast!!

This.

But mostly because our fandom was huge, she was literally everywhere. Earth was called Gagaland for 2 years while the mania was happening, we only had 2 albums, one EP and one LP.

Also, TMBT was the first time the whole world (except Brazil) could see her live and get some of the Gaga magic.

This flavor can't be recreated at all since the tour has perfectly aligned with the post recession times, she shook us and woke us up and gave us fuel a lot of us needed in our lives.

Touras are not only music, stage, coreos, makeup and outfits - it's also what crowd brings to the show and, maybe it's funny to say, we all healed collectively on the shows with her being our maestro.

No they don'! I tought the same the first time they showed us the stage but I've seen many videos from different angles and I can tell you that this is the way these stage has to look. It's part of the integral artistic vision of the tour.

And getting back on the thread, the answer is YES. People is so nostalgic and tend to putting past tours on a very high pedestal. I can understand the love and praise for the BTW Ball but I'm totally speechless everytime someone says that the artrave was better (design was) than TCB, like HOW?!?! ... TCB is more artistic than the ARTrave, that tour was rushed, the olympus inflatable thing was so tiny (it looked like it was a manufacture error that couldn't be change), it was overproduced and the only thing that was great were the catwalks.

I really liked the Monster Ball stage, props and outfits. I think that’s why I really love that tour.

From what I’ve seen of the tour so far, the Chromatica Ball looks like her best set yet.  The stage looks so different between Acts and sometimes just between songs because of how good these screens are.

I think you’re correct in that the old tours might not look as impressive now but it’s worth remembering the time they came out.  Both TMB and BTW were leagues above what other artists were doing at the time.  artRAVE’s main stage/screens were a little lacklustre but the runway setup more than makes up for it and Joanne goes for quite a good middle ground of good stage and good runways.

There's something about her eyes where you can tell she's matured, she's went through something, something heavy that has accumulated and has made her different, it's part of life, we all grow, i've went through this too and notice it in myself and i'm not even in my thirties. I think maybe people miss the beginning of her career because she had a different mindset, there was a hunger for fame & success & perfection in her art. Now there's no hunger but there's still this need to please her fans, and the hunger is more towards acting and movies.

Yes but that's mainly because the fandom back then used to be overemotional young twinks who now grew with her turning into (still overemotiona) millenials who also have to cope with the fact their past 25 and thus are now considered unfu.kable in the gay scene.

Thank me later for this analysis.

TMB and BTWB I consider better than Artrave and JWT because they actually felt like Gaga shows. The latter two were still very much Gaga but without the theatrics, something will always feel like it’s missing

It sounds like you hang out with too many twinks/young gays :ladyhaha: The gay scene is dull under 25, it’s when you start to grow up and have proper adult money gay life gets exciting

I think the JWT is her best to date, but y'all ain't ready for that discussion 👀

She has obviously been through hard stuff and now she appears to be somehow jaded. I thought she wasn't ever going to do intense choreo again, after seeing toned down dancing in Enigma. With that being said, what impresses me the most with this tour is her dancing, which clearly she's putting a lot of effort into.

She seems in better shape and healthier. However, imagine having chronic pain, with flares happening out of nowhere, and you have to dance AND sing for hours on end. She's amazing for doing the most :enigma:
