Gaga's weakness and strengths?

I think her biggest strength is also her biggest weakness: she goes in 200% for everything she does. This means she's committed and in control which is good, but sometimes I feel like's she overbearing and too **** about certain things and the way she talks about them (e.g. the method acting for House of Gucci or endlessly repeating the bullying story during Born This Way era, Hauslabs slogans etc.). I love that she he has a clear vision for things, but sometimes she oversells her own ideas and then I feel like taking some distance from her.

I disagree with her being a subpar lyricist. She wrote everything on TFM (look at the credits, it was pretty much her lol), and then look at Chromatica. I don’t understand how someone like Gaga could write ANYTHING on BTW or TFM or ARTPOP yet still be so simple for Chromatica. My theory is that she had to simplify lyrics for whatever reason. I don’t know why but I think that happened. However, I still believe there’s some great lyricism in Chromatica like 911, Babylon, and Enigma

As an amateur writer I must tell that something you create at a certain point in your life doesn’t define you as an artist, for good or for bad. The fact that she wrote BTW TFM herself in the past, does not mean she is creatively the same person, or capable, or even maybe wishful to create something similar again. And motivations change, inspirations change, the effort put into the work changes…

i’ve always found her lyrics interesting and fun, sometimes even a punch in your face in a good way, but in general she and the fans rather overestimate her writing depth.

I think that what was brought up here that Gaga has come off out of touch since Joanne is something that is very hard to not let it happen after a certain years of being in this business. I think it happens automatically and it will happen to Billie Eilish as well in a few years. This extreme place of fame combined with social isolation that occurs in your innerst circles only leaves one option to literally flee into the arms of your fanbase and deliver a love substitution. I think that happened to Gaga back then and after Joanne she finally distanced herself and got room to breathe and find herself. She loves us still the same like her early days but it's more healthy and I am happy with that. I think that she's still here has shown her biggest strength and determination she actually has a huge awareness of what possibilities her platform offers to the world

Yeaaahhh but she definitely was able to turn a phrase a bit better lyrically imo. Her hooks used to be ^incredible^ in TF and TFM. I mean, Paparazzi is a great example (Lovegame is a bit overused so I’ll use another); “promise I’ll be kind, but I won’t stop until that boy is mine.” It has a bit of her signature kind of clunky style but it’s still cleaner than what she writes now. Idk how her lyrical rhythm became worse over the years but it has lol or the pre chorus of Bloody Mary is another example. It’s kinda dumb, a little clunky but she manages to sell it because it isn’t jarringly pulling your attention from the song lmao

I‘ve been thinking about her writing lately a lot and I felt in her more recent songs it gets cringy sometimes.. I don‘t like the style that much anymore, the use of adjectives and sometimes the structure over all. HmH is a great example for that „look into my wishful eyes“ and „let god show you(us or whatever) how“ feel so clunky.

Tbh it follows in the tradition of her more recent heartfelt songs damn near making no sense :laughga: like million reasons is borderline incoherent lyrically but sounds nice lolol love the girl, but yeah something has been a little off with her lyrics for a bit.

my personal opinion is that her music needs a bit more of an urban influence again (like on TF and TFM and some of BTW and tbh DWUW on AP). That’s when it was at its strongest rhythmically. I think that when she abandons the sensibility of some of the more urban styles like RnB, Hip hop, etc. she falls into some of her less strong tendencies as a writer. For instance; SHICD is a straight up RnB pop song and whether you relate to the feeling she’s describing you definitely jive with the feeling the song is giving rhythmically. I see that as the bigger issue is that her lyrics fit the style and structure she was writing to but hasn’t adapted super well to her newer styles she’s experimented with

Strengths: Her talent, voice, creative identity and imagery.

Weakness: Her lyrics are not 100% relatable. She uses complicated metaphores and ambiguous lyrical narrative that GP can't relate to it.

Strengths: more than I could list but above all her talent is her intelligence that I think is so fascinating. The fact that she is a natural born star with a quality that makes you take notice is something very few are born with and she has it in spades.

Weaknesses: her team and the people she surrounds herself with. Her loyalty is incredible but she has out grown everyone she works with both personally and professionally. They are great people but she needs new blood desperately. I also think part of the reason her loyalty is so strong to them is because she has made them more than work friends. They think of themselves as family and friends and in the end they are yes men. Which she likes and supports certain issues she has.

Why she talking about having a highway

What is a dry way?

there’s a lot of “sounds pretty and near metaphorical but when you unpack it it’s like huh?

strengths: vocals, visions, compassion, commitment

weakness: I feel like she isn't into fashion/music(unless it's jazz) as she used to be anymore and it's kind of sad. For me, it's a bit mind-blowing that an album that she released 10 years ago is of better quality than the one she released 2 years ago. Saying that I think the songs on ASIB are fantastic, unlike HMH.

"If I had a highway, I would run for the hills" - If I felt like I could leave/get away

"if you could find a dry way, I'd forever be still" - sounds like ther person this is about is an alcoholic and the alcoholism is part of what's driving them apart.

I think it's fair to say that you don't *like* these lyrics, but I don't really think it's fair to say they're incoherent.

Strength: Having a good team who were insanely creative together

Weakness: Firing them and thinking she was as good as the team on her own.

I have been to TONS of concerts and Gaga remains my favorite:

Strengths: connection with the audience, song variety, live vocals, give her a piano and she is the show.

Weakness: song quality is uneven (Bad Romance vs Jewels n Drugs), underpromotes albums, ignores fan requests (where is the video for Sour Candy?), randomly performs songs that never get properly released (Princess Die, partynauseus).
