Taylor, Adele may not be eligible for the Songwriter of the Year Grammy

Producer of the Year essentially has the same rules, what's so hard to understand? They created this category specifically to honour professional songwriters who seldom get the spotlight. Of course they are going to make sure the award can't be easily vultured by popstars.

I first read the title and was about to be frustrated because Taylor and Adele are some of our generations best lyricists/songwriters. But after reading, I actually agree with this completely. Big name artists all have their chance to win in the other categories, but this gives an opportunity to give proper recognition to songwriters who work behind the scenes. It makes more sense for people such as Jack Antonoff, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, etc. to be nominated for their songwriting work as opposed to someone like Taylor who will likely be nominated in several other categories that still recognize her art.

This is an award for someone like DJ Snake and Clinton Sparks who co-wrote Government Hooker and Bloody Mary, or Brian Lee who co-wrote Americano and Highway Unicorn.

Or Hilary Lindsay who contributed to the album Joanne with its country sound. 

Its an award for the people behind the scenes who are brought in to contribute to giving the song that push to where the artist wants it.
