Friday evening, 8:58 p.m. in Berlin: the earth suddenly shook. On the Internet, residents of the capital describe how lamps sway, houses shake. Experts confirmed afterwards: Yes, that was something like an earthquake. And the trigger was people.

Three seismographs in Berlin registered earthquakes on Friday evening. The earth around Tempelhofer Feld shook for about a minute.

Local residents sometimes felt the tremors clearly: "It's not funny. I live about two kilometers away as the crow flies, on the 4th floor of an old building," wrote a woman on Twitter . "The house swayed, my floor lamp swayed too."

[...]

From 8:58 p.m. to 8:59 p.m., privately operated seismographs in the area provided clear signals," he told t-online . And: "The tremors with a magnitude of 1.4 lasted too long to be of natural origin. They most likely go back to a concert."

[...]

At that time the first day of the "Tempelhof Sounds" festival took place, with bands like Balthazar, Pete Doherty's Liebertines and the main act of the evening: Florence + The Machine. The latter band may have been responsible for the earthquakes.

A comparison with the set list published on the Internet shows: When the earth and houses shook, the piece "Dog days" was on the program. And front woman Florence Welch likes to ask the audience to jump, as a recording from an earlier festival shows.

The revelation surprised some. "As a former tour manager, I would like to know from what capacity you have to expect vibrations in a two-kilometer area," wrote a user on Facebook . "We've never had that before, even at the biggest open air events with 60,000 visitors."

Jens Sapski from "Erdbebennews" replied: "It has less to do with the number of spectators and more with the underground. Above all, it needs a floor that absorbs the energy of the jumping crowd and transmits it well."

I saw them at Outside Lands in 2018 and they literally have everyone put their phones away during Dog Days Are Over in order coordinate a huge “let it it all out” moment, jumping included (and strongly encouraged).

it was insanity, in the best way possible
