If I remember correctly, Hounds of Love, the album the song is on, even dethroned Like a Virgin. It was a moderate hit stateside but it was pretty huge in Europe.

Kate Bush has always been semi-mainstream. This song made it to #3 on the UK singles chart when it first came out.

She is but she's a very reclusive person and barely appears in public, even back when she was still releasing music frequently 

Her last album came out 11 years ago (and that's not even her longest break between albums )

I agree. But it’s undeniable that the singles and the „softer tone“ (for lack of a better word that) she was going for with them are more accessible than anything on, let’s say, The Dreaming.
